Dropshotting Steenies in the surf

Hi guys

Dropshot in Namibia is still in its infancy compared to SA, mainly due to the lack of game fish. There are a few guys targeting West coast steenbras and Kob and have had great success.

My Buddy with a 4.6kg Steenie, caught on a 4" lug worm. What a fight!

Yes it did!!!!! 9ft Exceller, 15lb Diawa saltiga braid on the Sargus 4000. They are very powerfull on light gear, that sargus was singing! Better than catching bronzies, anyday!

i've got thos as well, and actually had some takes on it in langebaan lagoon. I cut it off about 2cm above where it starts thinning into the tail and put it on a 2/0. I didnt catch anything but think it's small stumpies giving it a go.

If grunter take it in the breede, dont see why it wont work  in any estuary for white steenbras as well.

I know of a certain member here who caught and released an estimated 16 to 18 kilo Steenie on dropshot recently.... I've seen and got the pictures, but they are not mine to post... perhaps I can persuade the angler to post them.... defintely one of the finest light tackle achievements I've seen..... 7ft rod, 2500 reel, 15lb braid and 25lb leader... tagged and released...

Awesome fish, was it caught in the surf? In the surf is sumthing special! I know that the guys in SA have been getting good steenies in estuaries but catching steenies in the surf in Nam is something new, 5kg is my next target
