Dropshoted a GT from Petingo

Hey guys, I got this GT on 5inch GULP Mackerel fishing off the Petingo wreck yesterday. Took me forever to land lol.

Great stuff!!!

I personally think the old nexave (As in pic) could've done with a bit more backbone, but they are nice rods nonetheless. (I have both the spinning & Casting model in 1oz)

Excellent fish!!!!

Hi guys, the fish was 88cm, took me forever to land lol, 35 -50min, not sure. maybe more. Did not ask the skipper if he timed it. I was using my old shimano nexave H rod and Procaster 5000 reel spooled with 4kg fireline.

Great Stuff,very very jealous::SMost noteworthy.I dont think one always appreciates how many things have to go your way in an extended fight like that,more so on the tackle used.

Awesome catch on that tackle, plz correct me if I am wrong but is the Procaster not the new Daiwa budget series of spinning reels? I have seen them advertised in the Rock Surf and Deep magazine along with the Daiwa Regal.

Hi Keith_R

Not all that new but budget indeed, I won this reel about a year ago spooled with Berkley Fireline (in a dropshot compo lol). First time I used it was last years trip to Rocktail Bay. Did some dropshotting in the surf. It packed up on about the 10th cast lol. The bearings not so good, must say it took a lot of saltwater. (as does all my spinning reels when I dropshot in the surf)

Once back home I stripped it and gave it a good overall (replaced the already rusted ball bearings with stainless ones from bearing international). After all that, this trip to Petingo was in fact the first time I used it again. Must say after the overall it handled that King like a dream.

Thanx dude, thinking of getting either this reel or the Daiwa regal for some dropshot when I hit Richards Bay in April. What are your recommendations?
