Hi Guys!

What do you think about having a weekly section on drop shot? We try and help the new comers to the sport by posting pics of the drop shot used, the size of hook, knots, leader, fish caught and so on. it would help us all improve our knowledge on the drop shot that's been taking over.

I'm going to Cape Vidal South Ledges this weekend and I will post pics on this subject when I get back. Hope the weather allows for a good fishing weekend!!^^..

Good idea::S or bad :pukeidea??

Regards

Daryl

Sounds like a great idea. I have drop shotted in Durban Bay, and When i go diving in rocky bay i normally take the drop shot and surf gear with.

I am in richards bay quite often. I see you from there. I normally end up with my container ships at the small crafts basin for refuelling by barge. Any good spots near there?

Hey Wolf.

I have been living in the "BAAI" my whole life and to be honest with you I don't really fish there much. A place I hear that produced nice fish on drop shot is at the steel bridge and then the hot spot is at the yachts club. Nice Kingfish being landed. The reason I don't really fish the Bay much is that you have St Lucia 40min away and its worth the drive because your guaranteed to land something. Fishing is a bit slow. Even the boys from ESA has a hard time in the bay but offshore they hammer it.

Will let you know if anything new pops up regarding fishing in Richards Bay.

Try this

Start at Ansteys Beach 2 hrs before low tide and work your way north on all ledges/gullies, as far as your energy level/success rate determines, towards South Pier. Next trip start there and go South towards the Cutting!

Good luck, and if you do go, reply here and let us now how it went!

Cheers

Good idea. i live on directly accross the road almost from Green Dolphin on Ansteys so should not be a problem doing the walk.

Will give it a go. When im not paddling around that is....

With the access to South Pier gone, there must be quite a few fisherman fishing the beaches and gulleys from Ansteys northward. Have you noticed many anglers in that area recently? I believe there is a good spot 300-400 metres north of the parking lot, suitable for sliding, which produces Sandies etc quite regularly. Any comment?

Has the beaches / conditions changed much since the 'Tsunami'.

I'm lost now with closure/inaccessibilty of the piers!!!

Maybe I must take over my boets Stealth Wahoo since he got a Jet-ski for fishing!

Hi MickJack

Well dunno about any Tsunamis but we did have a eqinox and tropical storm a little off shore same time which caused huge swell and waves. In fact Brighton beach which is about 200 meters down the same road is wrecked and closed to public due to the damage.

The police closed the roads which was nice had the beach to myself as i live practically on the beach. We just sat watching these huge waves washing up onto the street by us. was interesting.

took some photos with my phone of the damage afterwards as i walked down if you wana see.

Plenty of fisherman fish about 100 to 200 meters north of ansteys parking lot.

My mate stays on marine drive and has a path from his back yard to the beach. His beach is always full of fishermen who walk from ansteys. Not many drop shot but quite a few surf.

Thats the storm swell I'm talking about! 19/20th March.

Washed away the bottom access road to South Pier.

Do you fish off paddle-ski from Ansteys? Seems like a popular launch site!
