Hi guys
Has anyone from JHB driven down to Richard’s or Sodwana recently?
What’s the best route to go? And how are the roads?

Thanks in Advance

Hi Eli

I drive from Centurion to Richards Bay using ,

Centurion - Witbank - take Hendrina Turnoff - Bethal - Ermelo - Piet Retief - Pongola - Richards Bay.

The total distance is 650 Km. There are some potholes but generally Good Roads. The only problem is that you have to slow down when entering and exiting each Town.

You use the Joburg / Durban Freeway which has much more Tolls than the "Back road" i mentioned.

I am not sure how the latest Rains has affected the "Back road"- last used it in February this Year.

Hi Eli,

I also think the "back road" as Victorious stated is the better option. The most difficult part will be from Ermelo. The road conditions are not to bad , but this is where you start to meet up with the many long distance trucks that also go down to Richards Bay.

You can avoid the toll gate at Ermelo - just after Bethal take the Morgenzon - Amerfoort turn off - at Amerfoort there you take the Piet Retief road - the distance is about the same.
Not sure how the roads are after all these rains
