I have fished there a lot as I also stay west of the "borewors curtain" and never seen anyone pulling out or even trying for bass. Huge barbel their though. Klerkskraal is probably a better option for bass.

You will also have a great time on a float tube at Potch dam.

I use to nail the bass this time of year with surface lures.

Work especially around the boat docks and you will have a lot of fun.

Cant remember anyone catching bass in Klipdrift....

Well they list Klipdrift Dam as a bass fishing spot in the Bass SA Magazine ,so someone must think there is bass in there

Another good spot is at the train bridge.

Boskop does have small mouth although I have never caught any there. There are also great small mouth yellow fish in the river above the dam. Great action on the fly, but you need permission from the farmers. They are some of the most beautiful golden yellow yellowfish that I have ever seen. When the dam level is low you can catch them right up to the big bend leading into the main dam.

BTW watch out for the sand bags that span the channel just in front of the rail bridge in Potch dam. They are about 10m out from the bridge back towards the wall, and lie on the bottom right across the entire channel. Any crank bait getting near them gets caught up and lost. I dived there a while ago with a mate of mine and recovered about 15 crankbaits stuck in the hessian of the bags. They do provide good cover for bass though. Most of the big busses are caught around the boat jetties and restaurant next to the camping area especially during spawning in October.

Boskop thats the name I could not remember.

Dont they close the Potch dam for Bass fishing during spawning any more?

I remember one day when the dam management got all upset while I was fishing because it was closed for bass fishing during spring.

I caught about 27 bass in 3 evenings in May in 2001. Was damn cold but the bass was hitting that small floating Rapalla like you can not believe....

Fishing for bass at night and in early winter can keep you busy just make sure you take a flask of polisie koffie with.... ;)

Jip thats the place.

Get in there with your float tube and work over to the boat club's jetties.

I used to cast poppers next to the jetties sometimes hitting the jetty wall and as the popper fall in to water I would be on...

There was a lot of grass so its was difficult to use anything like a rappala.

Small black spinner bait worked as well. At some stage the water level fell and all the water grass on the dam wall side was almost like a carpet with open spots in between. There a weed less rigged fluke made for a lot of fun casting out over the weed and letting it drop in to the open spots.

Some evenings I would catch 15 to 20 bass and quite a few in the 20 inch class.

For Potch dam my confidence lure is poppers from around 16:00 in the afternoon.

Also keep an eye out for thunder storms. They move around quickly and trust me its not fun being caught on the dam in a thunder storm:?

I dont think the gate close at night.

But I have not been there since 2001 so things might have changed a bit.

Hope you have some fun on the water.
