Hi guys,

I go out deepsea on a regular basis (weekends only at this stage). If anyone is keen to join please feel free to contact me. I can take an additional three people on board at R1000 for the day (all tackle and bait included). Just bring your own food and refreshments.

Cheers

Hey Mornay, is that R1000 for the 3 people (R330 each), or R1000 p/p?

Also, where do you fish and what do you target? I'm keen to try for some Yellowtail,Snoek or Tuna.

Cheers

Hi Patrick,

It's R1000 for the boat for the day. So, if you bring three guys along it will be R333 per head, two guys will be R500 per head and so on.
I launch from Durban harbour, so I fish mainly along the bluff down to Isipingo. There we target snoek, Couta and the odd Dorado (all seasonal of course). There are a few good reefs for some decent rock cod, slinger etc.

If we head north I will go as far as Westbrooke, which is just beyond Umhloti (about  25-30km from the harbour. The target fish will be the same as bluff area.

Going straight out to deep water (up to about 7km) we will find sail fish, maybe some marlin if we are lucky, and more Dorado. I know guys are getting Tuna in the deeper waters but not too many. I will keep my ear to the ground for more reports.

By all means, please contact me and let me know when you are keen to take a trip out. My number is 083 307 2433.

Cheers

Cheers Mornay. Stupid me didnt check your location. Sorry,I'm here in the Cape and got pretty excited at your post, coz all the deap sea charters here are like way over priced. I'll keep you in mind if i'm ever up that way again.

Hi. Typically, at what time do you launch and at what time do you return to the harbour? Also, how much time is spent trawling and how much is spent bottom fishing?

Patrick/Bigguns, you guys are most welcome to give me a call.
Power5, launch times are generally determined by the seasons. I like to be on the water and heading to the harbour mouth by first light. In summer this would be around 4:30am and winter would be 5:30 to 6:00 am.

Fishing is also seasonal as you may know. This time of the year I like to trawl for at least the first 3-4 hours depending on how active the fishing is. After that you will be lucky to get anything good. The rest of the time on the boat may be for bottom fishing. It all depends on how long you like to stay out. At the very latest I like to be back in the harbour by 2:30pm. Considering that I launch at first light, to be back after that time makes the day uncomfortably long for most people.

If we do come back early for whatever reason (mostly bad weather) there is the option of fishing in the harbour. It's quite productive at the moment.

I hope this  helps.

Cheers

Hi Mornay. Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a bargain to me. I will be contacting you soon. I assume that I get to keep what I catch?

Hi power5,

Absolutely, you keep what you catch. However, being very conservation orientated, I stick to bag limits and sizes very strictly. I do have a fishing license that covers everyone on board, so if you want to bring anyone along who does not have a permit, it won't be a problem.
I look forward to your call.

Hi Riymos,

Yo don't need to bring any tackle at all. I carry 20 rods (each with their own reels) on the boat. This caters for  gamefish trawling, live bait fishing, bottom fishing, drop shot fishing and spinning. Anyone wanting to do flyfishing must bring their own tackle. I also provide a selection of dead baits eg, sards, chokka, bonnie (if available).

All you bring is your own food and refreshments.

I will keep an eye on the weather for the easter weekend and let you know closer the time.

Man i wish you were in Cape Town!! Sounds sorted, and for that price. Really good to hear that conservation is a must for you. I have been very disappointed with previous charters that club sharks and show no respect for the sea.

Nice going Morney. Good luck for the weekend.

Thanks Patrick. I was on a charter boat in St Lucia a few weeks back and believe me, I will never support them again. These guys were just raping the hell out of it. They were keeping undersize fish as well as exceeding the bag limits!
If ever you are in Durbs, give me a call and we can make a plan to go out on the boat.
Cheers

Thats exactly where my last charter was too. The skipper had this poor shark on the deck and was clubbing it to death, and then when it was still half alive threw it back in. I was totally disgusted and vowed never to support people like that.

They should be banned outright.

Hi Nash,

Regarding weather and sea conditions, I generally don't like to take chances. I watch the reports very closely before I make the decision to go out. Especially for first timers like yourself, I will choose a nice calm day because I don't want to scare the  cr*p out of guys on their maiden voyage.
I'm lisenced to go up to 15nm (27km) off shore. That is a really long haul and chances are you won't see much of land at that distance, but rarely have I had necessity to go that far out. Normally 8 to 10 km is sufficient, depending on what you're targeting. At 8km you can still see land very clearly. I hope this answers your questions...

Cheers
