Hi,


I got myself a Daiwa Sealine 50HSD which is in almost new condition, is it any good?

I just wanted to know if its any good and what rod you would reccommend.
What i have is a custom made rod of my dads made back in the 90's for him.

Want to get into rock and surf a bit with good decent equipment as the Gf doesn't enjoy going to the dams that much. Need a break from the papgooi.

So i think i have a good reel... just need a good rod to go with it.


Any thoughts/comments/advice would be well appreciated.

that reel is good enough to catch a good size shark with, learn to service it yourself and always make sure it is well lubed, especially the drag washer and when you targeting bigger stuff.

good alrounder or starter rod would be a multi tip rod, something that can cast sinker between 4 and 6 oz. any well known names on the market are all good rods. Poseidon, Loomis & Franklin, Exage, Blue Marlin.

Thanx Skrops for info. A shark you say! Hmmm...

I bought it second hand for R450 (R900 new i've seen in one store)
Its still in really good condition (only used 2 or 3 times).
I did notice the drag washer might need replacing as its been standing for about a year in storage apparently.

if the drag wasn't tight while in storage they should be fine, you just rinse them in benzine and re-grease them then they should be fine, otherwize if you want put new ones in they only about R60 bucks for the set.

Well mate there is absalutely nothing wrong with that Dawai you got there. I started angling with that and had a poseidon on it either the 13 or 14 foot depends on your lenght. Or the loomi works well on it as well with a 5 oz or 6 oz sinker for normal fishing and some local sharkies like your spotty ect....Happy fishing mate....
