Went through to Pringle bay (Near Hangklip) on Wednesday 8am in the water, viz was a good 8-10 meters. Picked my bugs out in record time (15min). Took a my gril friend and a Buddy (rookie) with me and they struggled a little bit so thought I would take them to Rooi-els as I have always found it to be easier diving there. The viz was about 5 meters and they both managed to catch their first bugs and even went on to land their quota for the day, all in all was a very good day.

BUT My girlfriend had to get back to Stellenbosch to write an exam at 2pm (we were in 2 cars) and she was running a little late so we had her bugs in the cooler-box and off she went to write her exam (we left 3 minutes after her), on the way out we were stopped by MCM and they did a search of our car, low and behold I got a R2000 fine because she was not in the car with us (my mistake-I know) but I told the official the story of my G-friend having to write and exam etc @ that I will give her a call to turn around and come back (she couldnt have been more than 5km away by then, but they just ignored me, I called her none-the-less & she came straight back, they had'nt even finished writing out the fine when she got to us but they just kept on that what I did was illegal and that they will see me in court if I dont pay the fine!!

Ok, I'm all for them doing their job but my word, that was a little overboard or what do you think? Should I use my "connection" in Caledon to squash my fine or should I pay?? I'm stuck between a rock & a hard place!!!

Worst of all is that the one bug was just-just size but looked very small and they did not even want to measure it!! I thought that was pretty strange but it seems that they just see whether you have your 4 per permit per person per car!! They did'nt even count the Alikreukle!!

C4Cole,
you need to take the identification number of the guy handing out the fine and report him immediately! Seriously we can't have guys on ego trips, granted you where in the wrong but if your girlfriend just rocked up they should have given you guys off due to the fact that you all had your permits....

hey guys,
I'm really sorry for the spam but sometime (just sometimes) it's important enough. This is one of those instances; I'm not sure you all are aware but the West Coast Rock Lobster (crayfish)'s season has been shortened by 60%. This was done not to conserve stock (because there's plenty) but to allocate it to more commercial fisherman, who already have 90% of the total allowable catch (recreational cray divers/catchers only get 10% of the total allowable catch). If you have ever eaten a crayfish or have had the privilege to catch one please support the guys who are fighting for our rights! I've attached the email below for you to check out. Please spread the word to all your friends and family!

For any further information please contact Cary who is the head of the RFS(Recreational Fishing Services) recfishserv@yahoo.com

Hi All and sundry( Members and non -member who want to assist financially)   DIE TYD HET GEKOM DAT ONS ALMAL SAAM STAAN!   The decision has been made. We will be submitting an urgent interim interdict, more than likely by next week Tuesday, 23.11.10. and have an sanction by Thursday. I have been informed by legal council that our chances are good in getting our kreef season back on track. We will use the appoach of the Promotion of the Administrative Justice Act(PAJA). As far as our legal council is concerned, Fisheries have shot themselves in the foot, for instituting the current season without consultation, to which we have more than enough evidence.   Now, initially RFS needs R50 000.00. We have about half of that. We may need more money. RFS is proceeding with confidence that who pledged money, will deposit the funds into our account. I give my personal assurance that the funds will be used in terms of our Constitution. Spread the word.   So far the biggest donation have got, is from Steele's Tackle R3000.00. So the challenge is on. Thank to those who have already submitted funds.   We will be using Shaun Hangone from Von Leries, Cooper and Barlow. He was recommended by Shaheen Moolla and was briefed. Council must still be identified.    Bank Account Details: RECREATIONAL FISHING SERVICES NEDBANK A/C N.:        1040523787 B/CODE:     104 509   Wish us luck!   Kind Regards Cary Steele-Boe (Recreational Fishing Services)

@C4cole

Dude as far ass my 2 cents go I reckon you were seriously hard done by. Considering that your girlfriend did come back within a matter of minutes, it is completely unacceptable that they still proceeded to fine you. They should be concentrating on poachers who take hundreds a day.

I would take it to the top. R2000 is no joke at all. Just remember for next time though:)

its not much but i pledge R 200 (not towards the fine sorry) ,but to help fight these idiots in court.

p.s. can somebody post  these new rules. eckart?

p.s.s. got a 3,5 kg bag of crays(4) today.in the pot already,yum

I will probably get shot down for this but you did disregard the law and got fined.A small mistake I agree, but they have to have zero tolerance.

I have had to check myself this season as we are only allowed 8 crays in our possesion at ANY time.If I had crays in the freezer I wouldn't catch the following day.

I have a friend that is an officer and these guys lives are certainly not easy. The guys in the Cape seem a bit sharper than the KZN Fishery guys.I haven't even had my license checked in the last 4 years and I dive regularly.
