Went through to Pringle bay (Near Hangklip) on Wednesday 8am in the water, viz was a good 8-10 meters. Picked my bugs out in record time (15min). Took a my gril friend and a Buddy (rookie) with me and they struggled a little bit so thought I would take them to Rooi-els as I have always found it to be easier diving there. The viz was about 5 meters and they both managed to catch their first bugs and even went on to land their quota for the day, all in all was a very good day.
BUT My girlfriend had to get back to Stellenbosch to write an exam at 2pm (we were in 2 cars) and she was running a little late so we had her bugs in the cooler-box and off she went to write her exam (we left 3 minutes after her), on the way out we were stopped by MCM and they did a search of our car, low and behold I got a R2000 fine because she was not in the car with us (my mistake-I know) but I told the official the story of my G-friend having to write and exam etc @ that I will give her a call to turn around and come back (she couldnt have been more than 5km away by then, but they just ignored me, I called her none-the-less & she came straight back, they had'nt even finished writing out the fine when she got to us but they just kept on that what I did was illegal and that they will see me in court if I dont pay the fine!!
Ok, I'm all for them doing their job but my word, that was a little overboard or what do you think? Should I use my "connection" in Caledon to squash my fine or should I pay?? I'm stuck between a rock & a hard place!!!
Worst of all is that the one bug was just-just size but looked very small and they did not even want to measure it!! I thought that was pretty strange but it seems that they just see whether you have your 4 per permit per person per car!! They did'nt even count the Alikreukle!!
