Nice, thanks! good luck....you dive in front of firestation..and just wait for em...or the vlei? or do you look for em?
I was told...look for open patch...open can of pilchards in oil....put in bait bag in open patch..and wait for em..
saw pierre coming out the water there once with 5 on his stringer! I'm yet to shoot one

The bait bag is good to have , just clip it on your belt while you swim around. If you dont see fish then swim around to look for them like you say in the open patches in the kelp, if the cob are around you will see plenty of other fish species as well all over the place. Once you spot them dont move as they will spook and not come back. Try shoot from the suface and dont go under if possible as they will also spook. That should be enough info to get some if they are around, only problem is they are always in the most dirty patch of water where you cant see them!!! sucks but keeps them around for the years to come

Hi folks, is anyone planning to go diving for crayfish tomorrow morning (Friday, 4th)?

I'm new to Melkbos, so a little local knowledge would be great! Let me know, cheers!

Looked for fish but its still dead, no kob at all. only saw some small hotties in the kelp. water is very good for crayfish diving. watch out for the inspector, fill in your permits as he is around. Zip got some nice crays there today, so they are still around and anton got a cray of 1.45kg yesterdaywith 3 other big ones , his bag weighed just over 5kg!!!! well done!!

Dived melkos with Zip earlier and the water is still great for crays, we got 4 each, dived a bit deeper this time and got them out in the open water. Water was a bit cold and only saw hotties again and one galjoen in very dirty shallow water in the kelp by the vlei. weekend looks very good for crays. Enjoy it guys while it lasts!

So, what happened this weekend? myself and  two friends went to Hangklip and got quota while fishing off a rubberduck using only one net. we dropped the net three times and tied it to the boat, caught some hotties and lots of undersized elf that was released also a galjoen of about 50cm.

Just passed the Hangklip hotel turn right ,about 300m and you are at the slip. We were 3 on the boat. About 50 boats out during the day i believe everyone got quota including the divers and kayakkers. no slip fees.

why is it that the crays dont climb into the nets at melkbos are the to skittish or just full of nonsense

I put some bait baggs down when diving, & found that the kelp sharks can be a real pest- eating your bait & creating havock all around. The crays are also scared of them cause sharks eat crays. also dont put your nets on sand patches..

Was at Fruit and Veg at Willow Bridge yesterday, they were selling Cray Tails 5 for R100, thought lets go and have a look, man if they were not undersize I will eat my hat, still remarked to the guy at the counter how small they were, replied no sir I am not allowed to sell undersize,if any of you are in the area go and have a look.

They were very tiny.

But remember commercial limit is 70 mm carapace length. Pity as they only become sexually mature at the same size
