Thanks for that link muuuuch better! :SSS

They put up that 8-4 time in order for the inspectors to sleep later and knock off work earlier...

I guess I’m a bit harsh.

However, I do think that MCM are sucking their thumb w.r.t. the crayfish regulations. I don’t think they really have clue as to the actual population metrics.

Make no mistake I am an avid (actually more than avid) supporter of the conservation of our seas – but when they instate quotas / times without knowing what they are dealing with I get frustrated and worried.

Hi guys thanks for a informative thread

We have been taking out goggas in Pringle and Hangklip these past few years using nets and kayaks, from what I read the nets don't seem to work in Melkbos which I found strange , maybe the volume of crays in the area is so low that you have to be on the right spot to net them.

You guys also speak highly of Grotto , whereabouts is it and would it be a easy launch and paddle with a kayak .

I see the wind etc is looking much better on the Melkbos side for this weekend.

grotto is about 45 min drive up towards Langebaan (in my slow 4x4) look for a board that says Grotto.
Easy launch for your Kayack ( pebble beaches though ) but it can work...

Good luck

i was at melkbos late yesterday afternoon just after 6 and a guy came out with a kayak at the fire station where he had been fishing and he had some nice cob which he had caught so i would maybe suggest if you done diving for crays and you have a speargun have a shot

Hi green gaint, that video was taken at dassen  or whale rock near robben Island, the guys in the video is Pierre or Spierre as I named him and the boat looks like AD`s Invader cat. Seriously doubt they shot the tail at melkbos. I have seen one yellow while diving for crays on the 19th Dec a few years ago at melkbos and I have heard of one of the locals shooting some tail while diving for hotties/ crays so its not impossible but i would not go to Melkbos to target yellowtail, its more of a miracle if you shoot one there!
