Conventional Carp Angling

Haaaaaalp any "Papgooiers" out there.

I have not been fishing for a while and bought some "Carp Hunter" and "Super Cast" ground bait. I don't know if the manufacturers have changed their formulas or I am doing something wrong but in both cases the ground bait did not mold nicely to the sputnik and came off every time I cast.Bait went one way ground bait the other. Needless to say I did not have much success. Can anybody advise as to what I am doing wrong.Seems its not a case of "Just add Water"!!!???

Hi

to get the consistency right every time, I use a plastic mug and mix 1 part water with 2 parts ground bait. Let it stand for a few minutes and then knead a hand ful for the sputnik.

Some brands have more husks in and others contain more solid particles (crushed mealies). Just add more or less water to get the right consistency, but the basic ratio is the 1 water to 2 ground feed.

with them packing and shipping 20 tons in a month it does happen that some packs/batches will have a bit more binder than others.

Mix your feed as JPS indicated as a good measure. if you find the feed is still a bit "Bros" and dryish to bind nicely then wet your hand when making the feed ball

If it's still to soft and wet after 10-20 minutes then add a small amount of dry feed to the mix and stir it up

Before putting the bol on take the handful and kneed it a bit to make the consistancy even throughout and then apply to the bait feeder and you can cast with confidence.

What I have found is that there must be enough water added to saturate all the particles and they must be stirred through very well before application.

I as a rule lately add a bit to much water so when I squeeze a handful it oozes between my fingers and then add some dry feed to stodge it up after it's stood for around 10 minutes.

I fish 2-3 times a week in season (mainly leagues and coaching) and don't experience the problem off feed not binding and i fish SuperCast, MG, Carp O Fix, Champion, Super Catch and Carp world but still prefer my cooked Chic-chic #1

I agree Enigma I myself prefer my mix of cooked chick-chick and a dash of wild birdseed for the oil content, it works like a bom!!!!

I do it this way:
Put 2 cups of wild bird seed in a 5L plastic bucket. Shake around until it is flat.
Cover with water to cover the birdseed about 20mm.
Cook in microwave on high for 15min.
This will give you a "snotty" substance.
Now mix in Supercast Plain to a fluffy substance. Put lid on.
Mix every 10min while loading your vehicle.
By the time you get to the water, your groundbait should be ready.
For some or other reason that I don't know, the other brands don't work well with this method. I always has to put in cake flour to get it to bind.

Thanks Pan for the advice I will try out the birdseed method this weekend. However I think my wife will "moer" me if I put a 5l bucket in her microwave!!!!!! LOL

After the clinic last year at UJ I do it the same way and it works for any feed... If it gets a bit dry I just sprinkel a few drop of water over it or wet my hand as Enigma said before making the bomb.

I still mix my ball 1/2 supper cast and 1/2 Lemmitjies, The only reason is the lemmitjies makes it binde faster.

Works for me so give it a try and let me know

I might get into trouble here, but what will happen if i use mielierys that isnt cooked or soaked. I just add a hand or two when I make my bom? The fish will surely just take the good bait and leave the mielrys until its soft enough...?

Lemmetjies is n uitstekende grond voer ! Dit bind blitz vinning en het self al baie sukses met die voer bereik. Al rede dat ek dit meng met super cast is omdat die foer baie lig voel en dis asof super cast dit bietjie gewig gee.

wat hier gebeur is dat die vis jou voer versprei en jou kol groter maak deur hulle opsuig en uitblaas aksie. ek gebruik rou mieliegrys en dit gee my voer ook die ektra gewig wat ek nodig het.

die kombinasie het mooi vir my gewerk die afgelope seisoen

Jy het nie nodig om mielierys te kook nie. dit is fyn gebreek en het geen dop aan nie. Dit neem baie vinnig vog op en is heel veilig om te gebruik.
Heel mielies het nog sy dop op, so dit vat baie lank vir vog om dit te penetreer.
Vandaar die "soak and cook".
