This is the galjoen setup that I use: Purglass 400/2 complemented with a Penn 505HS. Ratio is fast enough and it casts a mile! All my other reels are Shimano, Speed Master, Torium and Trinis.

If I take a combination of the 2 poll's then it looks like we need to go catch gallies with a shimano torium reel and some red bait......:lol:1:lol:1:lol:1:lol:1:lol:1:lol:1

Just curious, why do you guys use such big reels for galjoen? Torium 30???? Speedmaster IV's??? Surely they dont fight THAT hard for you to need a big reel like that. I have never been galjoen fishing, so I know next to squat about them. Do you need to winch them away from the rocks or what?

At the moment, my personal choice of reel is the Daiwa Saltist 30H. It's an absolute pleasure to use. I spool with 30lb Fireline which is ideal in my opinion for fishing the conditions that I favour. I started using Fireline for gallie fishing way back when it first came out and have'nt looked back.

To round it off, I use my Pentagon HMG light rod.

At the moment, this is my favourite setup!

Same here kraken.

I use a waft garrick with my saltist 30th and a shimano 15/30 with my shimano exage 1224, light tip. saltist loaded with 10kg maxima green 15/30 loaded with suffix xl strong0.43mm 14.8kg,both work extremely well for there intended purposes, ie. distance from sand and on the rocks.
