Catching Squid

Hi

I would like to no if antbody has any information on catching squid in the cape town aera what must you use? Is there any close season? I did a search on catching squid and saw a  lure that they use  I bought a similar lure today at milnerton market I will post a pic how it looks I think its a glow stick but im not sure any information on catching squid will be apreciated.

that is a old skool squid jig but works very well you can catch them off of kalkbay haubor

closed season for chokka 22 october- 22 november each year,
the jig you have looks good,but if you can make a turn at the tackle shops and ask for a "pink lady".it would also be advisable to take more than one jig and vary your colours.
colours that work well for me are "pink lady",pearl glow in the dark,blue and green.
as for what to look for,sometimes you'll find them in the foam,other times they'll prefer being in the dark/even under the light at restuarant at the harbour,its a matter of going down and seeing where they being caught.if there's any more info you need just pm me,hope this lil bit helps.

Jade make a turn at Kalk Bay harbour wall, late afternoon, especially when there's not much wind. Chat to the guys along the first 50m or so in the corner next to the restuarant.

You can pick up lots of tips from the regulars. Steal with your eyes, especially how to make and use a lure retriever, for those days when your jig, snags a rock or other imovable object.

You'll even be able to buy jigs from 1 or 2 of them who collect the lost ones.

Sparky2009 that doc looks like it was issued march 2008. On the current recreational info brochure 2008/2009 the chokka season is closed from 25 Oct-22 Nov.

Sparky2009 I do not whish to offend you and realise that this regulation is an amendement. Yet if it was amended in March 2008 it doesn't help if the 2008/9 seasonal brochures that are given to the public to inform them about regulations does not show the correct closed season. The brochure I am refering to I received in Mei 2009. I do not believe that one needs to read the government gazzette to keep up with fishing regulations. It could be that there is a more recent amendment to this law.
