I prefer a full spool on my 50. If you don't fill your big reel then you might just as well have a full smaller reel?
Don't agree.
Bigger reel, bigger drag, double dog pawls, more durable and less prone to catastrophic failure under load.
If using 50lbs Backing then 1000m 50lbs Whiplash and 200m 0.55mm is still 500m than you get on a 30 and because the reel isn't nearly completely full it is easier to cast.
I often fish mine with 600m 80lbs and 200m 0.60 or 175m 0.65mm. Easy to cast and full drag from the word go, if you can't stop it with that in 700+m then you won't stop it with the full compliment of 0.55 and 50lbs on a 50 or even less so with a smaller reel filled with lighter tackle.
Plus I get at least 25m further on the cast when I fish like this, yest it looks ODD but my Trini 50 when 75% full is still more than is on a Trini 40
