hi Guys,

I have been told that the aluminium barrel starts to bend from the 1.2 mark and some carbon barrels as well.

Have anyone experianced this problem with the gun bending? Does it make a big impact on accuracy etc...?

So the question is aluminium or carbon?

Hey bud,
I can speak from experience and say that you wont have an issue with the Freedivers Ali barrels... you need to look at the construction to see why. I've attached a photo but because of the unique design the barrel is way stronger than other barrels... I personally had a 1.4 with 2 16mm rubbers and that thing was deadly!!

I've recently upgraded to Carbon barrels and let me just say that all the hype is worth it... Freedivers have two barrels Xwrap and the maximum length in this barrel is 1.2 with a 20mm rubber but if you want a longer gun or more power you need to get his Strong barrel which is even stronger (my 1.2 and 1.4 is this type) and I've got them with 2 16mm rubbers... there is not a fraction of warp....

so which one you say?
It comes down to costs to be honest, my ali guns where epic and deadly accurate but there will come a time when your finances permits you to go carbon and lets say you wont be dissappointed... my suggestion is that if you ready to make the carbon jump replace the gun that you use the most with carbon.... for me that was my 90cm with 6.5mm spear and 16mm rubber... it's so light and movable, made me a total convert!

The only reason barrels bend is because guys are obsessed with cranking up their rubbers to the point of insanity.

There is nothing to beat sharp spears and anyway, if rubbers are too cranked it affects accuracy. The only fish that are really hard are big Kob, Big Poensies and the head of a Cobia (Prodigal Son). Even then, I have shot these with stock standard 20mm rubber.

Thanks Corry,
That makes perfect sence, so no real issue then... Just keep to the standard length "factory specs" rubbers and you will have no problems.
I should have posted the question differently to why or how a barrel would bend or flex, but you have given me the answer that I was looking for.
Thanks again and happy spearing!
