Cape Town Skippers

Hi all I have done some looking around and came across a few places where one can do a skippers ticket, but none that interests me mostly because it would be too far to drive. Apart from Gordon's Bay, where else? I find it hard to believe there are so little course providers in Cape Town (City), Simon's Town, and Hout Bay for instance. I thought I'd ask here quickly before I start phoning around to SAMSA etc.

Searching the Yellow Pages yielded the University of Cape Town Department of Oceanography - they appear to do skippers courses and commercial diving courses. I have yet to phone them but does anyone know anything about them?

thank you!

Contact Geoff Hawkins. He holds one at our club (Millers) and at Scarborough.
The 16th I think is the next one.

I don't have Geoffs Number but ask Colleen at the club 021 7867163 for his number.

I would second Geoff Hawkins. Did mine with him and it was really interresting. He teaches you a lot of practical stuff about emergencies and survival which I am not so sure you will receive from all other places.

Contact him on 021-7801201

I just completed my Cat B today at SA Skipper. George and Mari van Greunen in Durbanville. www.saskipper.com

I did my Cat C as a self study and just wrote the exam one evening. This is also a possibility if you have spent more than 50 hrs on a boat.

I did my skippers ticket in Durbanville 2 years ago, think that it might be at the same school as what you have mentioned here. They offer a good course!!
