The cogmanskloof River. This pushes a massive amount of silt into the breede system. No diving at Cape Infanta for at least another month!

My uncle, who is a resident at Oysterbeds Village (near the kraalkie) said that the heightof the river was such that the "harbours" even at the hotel, were completely under water and most of the jetties are gone. His neighbour whose house is about 3-4 meters above river height, was flooded.

A victim of this flood was saying on the radio that his and other houses were always 7 meters above breede river level.Their houses at this stage are standing in 1,5 metres of water! That's a rise of 8,5 metres!Imagine calculating those extra volumes of water if you had the total area of the river x 8,5 metres rise. It'd be interesting to know the length of the river as well as the average width of the river and calculate how many extra cubes of water that was delivered by means of rain in such a short period of time.

The muddy water has reached up to 16km out to sea at Witsand and Infanta. We were there this weekend and could not see any seawater all the way to the horizon. There is a container on the sandbank.

I think it will take a lot longer to recover since most of the prawns and other baits are probably dead now. So very little reason for the fish to come back into the river.

Anybody want to bring their bass rods down to Witsand might be lucky.

A real bumer cause a lot of folks up there rely on the season for the bulk of their income.

I reckon you right - January earliest bud

Well the positive from a fishing perspective.... at least the 20kg plus kobs that have been nailed in the Breede and Gouritz over the last couple of years have a lucky escape this year...

View from my Inlaw's house on the Breede. That is a Lapa's roof sticking out in the corner.
