This was the first rod i ever broke unintentionally, broke one when the knot parted on a huge steenie in 1990 witsands, i moered it on the gunnel of the boat, and that was it. this waft, and i have2 was never abused or used on the rocks, so it could not have picked up a bad spot, i think it is a wonderfull rod but i just got a crappy blank or it was damaged in transit. What do you rod experts think. Come to think of it, i have tried to break my other rods.not exeeding the rated weight, but no, nada, Shimano exage 1446, 1246, blue marlin, loomis & franklin, assasin and custom built rods, no siree. so why the hell did this one break, i was so peed of ileft shortly afterwards^^..

@ Alwyn- did you take the rod back to where you bought it, perhaps you can get a refund or a new one?
I recently broke my new 8ft Exage, on the very first Yellowtail i hooked with it, took it back to the shop and they are replacing it with a new one!

If the rod and weight you casting is in line according to the manufactures spec, then it should never break during a cast.
Provided there was no previous abuse to the rod which in your case does not sound like it. Breaking during a cast.....defect in the rod blank.

I took the rod in to western accecories  yesterday, they are sending it away to see if it can be repaired, but i dont think it can. When the rod snapped, the butt section slipped out of my hands and was also damaged, also some scratches on my daiwa th 30 that i bought with the rod, the only part on the rod that looks ok is the tip section, but after faling on the rocks below the road i cant be sure. And to crown it all i have the mother of all kraaineste on the reel^^..

Ek het nog geen terugvoer van hulle gekry nie, die stok is op 04-02-2010 gekoop en het op 14- 03 2010 gebreek, so binne die 3 maande tydperk as dit so, maar vir my is gese met die aankoop van die stok ,daar is n 1jr waarborg.,so ek sal maar wag en sien tot my geduld opraak, dit behoort so binne die volgende week te gebeur.

Graphite rods break, but there is nearly always a reason for it.

Either the angler is at fault or it has a latent defect which will manifest itself quite quickly and should then be replaced by the seller.
The only time I broke a rod(s) without apparent reason at the time were 2 black marlin T53's that I lifted fish with in a manner I was accustomed to, only to be told later that they can not handle that.

I agree with you on that, the only other rod i ever broke prior to this one was when i stripped my m$%#r on the breede when a big stenie came of after the line broke next to the boat, i then wacked the rod hard on the gunnel and the rest is history. i have an old daiwa graphite rod 11ft witch i purchased in 1989 at berg &company, which i used mainly on the gordonsbay mountain side at places like dabbatsgat boskloof etc. these places can be hard on fishing rods as you are forever knocking the rod against rocks , the rod is scratched and well used but still going strong. perhaps some blanks are just much better than others, i must add that i was hugely impressed with the waft garrick, that is untill it broke. or could it be that certain blanks are for certain jobs.If so it should come with instructions.

Had me a blue Marlin T53 beauty built by Errol Holmes here in PE.. Only fished it once before my "season" closed.
First outing to Brighton in the new season, second cast and the tip section shattered in three places!
Now normally I would be beside myself with grief and disbelief but a strange calm came over me..
Took the rod to Errol the next day, he contacted the rep and it was sent to the factory for analysis.
Result was a defect in the manufacturing process and they replaced the broken section, saving me R800 ! I was ::S
My rods are spotless and I take every precaution not to impact them on any surface but these things happen, just ask my partner Doom11 - result was his Pentagon Hmg Heavy busted! Cost him R1600 to do the repair and revamp on the stick.

I recently broke 2 of my favourite graphite rods (my fault). They are two piece rods and both times it was the tip ends that failed. I only use braid and that is apparently the reason why I exceeded the rod capabilities/specs (no stretch).

There is however some good news. :dapp:

If the rod is a well known brand name and is not too old, you can order the top end of the two piece rod from your local tackle shop. Got mine in 1 week.

Tongue in cheek advice I got from the tackle shop was too make sure I catch smaller fish. LOL::S

Only time I ever broke a rod (two of them)  was while driving, striking a bird at 160 tore of my rod holders and a truck did the rest...

OK, heres whats happening to my waft, i spoke to Yusuf Loonat of W.A. today and he is replacing my waft garrick at no cost to me, he seems to think i did not push the middle section of the rod deep enough into the bottom section, i am not going to argue that but i dont think so, but then there is allways the possibility that idid not. However i am happy with the outcome, so much so i ordered another waft, this time a 12ft just because of the service i got. as far as the warranty is concerned it is still 1yr. Mana to Western Accessories::S:dban::dapp:::respekt:::respekt:::rm:clap12;)
