What rod and reel setup are you using there?

Sorry for late response - did not see your post !

It was on an adrenalin 7ft MH and Shimano 3000 reel with 20lb braid ... I think been quite a while ... Was not the greatest of setups , but held up !

The adrenalin rod impressed me ... must say !

Hi guys

I am coming to Natal this weekend and I'll have one opportunity to fish.

Is it worth packing my rods and lures to try and get a garrick, or anything that would take a lure, in one afternoon session?

Can you advise on a spot to go. I will be staying in Umhlali but will have transport

Regards
Cobus

Hi guys
I have tried dropshot without any success yet in the false bay area, guess I'm always at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Where would the ideal place be to use these for kob?
Will be trying for snoek on my kayak but honestly think a drop shot will only last for two seconds with those teeth.

Thats exactly what i thought--so what exactly is the point of dropshot fishing. You spend a fortune on expensive gear to catch tiny fish that are no challenge and even too small to eat.
I think this whole dropshot thing is a money making gimmick....

not every one catch fish for the pan. the mentality of eat everything with fins is a raping gimmick.

with 9posts to your name i would suggets that you stick around, spent some time in the WHOLE dropshot section and maybe take a peak at the members gallery. any fish caught on lure or dropshot is a challenge, let it be a GT or blacktail, each has its own technique.

give it a go , and after a few months you can come back to this (your) thread and rephrase
Well said Roland !

@ Susi. There are a lot of anglers here that

understand the art of dropshot and saltwater spinning and had great SUCCESS !

Buy Blackfin's and the Alcock's brothers Dvd's and you will see what these guys

  catch on "dropshot"

@ Sushi..

Dude go on, buy the dvd's. What you will see are some amazing catches but thereafter ask yourself. Where did they fish? Reason I mention this is we went down to Mozambique(Xai Xai, Pendane etc), and what was truly amazing was that we had caught so many fish that our bait ran out, so we decided to use some of the vienas that we took as snacks and the fish were still coming out thick! A pal of mine decided to use his cigarette butt as bait and WOW, a beautiful rockod took it....

I believe on can outfish someone with dropshots when it comes to catching stuff like leervis, kingis etc. Ans with a lead head even more so...

All my best and biggest catches have been on dropshot. For me,it has out fished bait, and most hard plastics around. It takes time to learn the tries but it is more than worth it. Just my 2c

Hi

I have tried dropshots @ durban harbour and did manage the odd kingfish(big eye, green spotted), also pickhandle barracuda but nothing above the 1.5kg - 2kg range. If you are looking at having some fun, I would suggest a slow retrieve bouncing the dropshot on the sandbanks(centre bank and yachtmole banks) as the flatheads cant resist the dropshots. A 3kg flathead on ultra light tackle is "tops". My 2c t(((up((

Hi Faizal-D

Moved to Durban recently. I've never fished in the harbour. Where would I go, how do I get there etc ? The last I heard was that you were not allowed to fish the harbour.

I really enjoy dropshotting and spinning and I'm always looking for a new place to wet a line.

Thanks
