Howzit Guy's
Well we didnt do much fishing this weekend but on Sunday we managed to get some fishing in.Jonah,Shaun and I took a drive to Blue Lagoon which by 6.30am resembeled a Sharks Rugby Match. There were so many fisherman and not many fish. From the report i got a bit later only a handfull of shad came out,but the one bit of good news is that apparently 1 10kg Garrick did come out.
At least this was a sign of good times ahead. We decided to drive along the beachfront and check out the other piers.Eventually we ended up at bench pier.On my first throw i hooked a small pompano which fell of as i lifted it out the water,Not much diapointment as it was very small. On my second throw i had a huge bump hooked it and then bam off.Disapointed i put in another bait only to have the same thing happen.Jonah also experienced these bites as well as Shaun, but none of us could fathom out why we couldn't hook up..
I then slid out a Mackeral head which stood in the stand for about an hour, when Shaun noticed the line go absolutely slack.I reeled up the slack and managed to hook a smallish grey shark of about 4 kg which i released. The rest of the morning was quiet. At about 12pm a little boy who was fishing on the pier hooked a karrenteen which he gladly gave to me.I slid this one out and continued fishing with mu smaller stick. The little bot then hooked another one and gave it to Shaun, which he also slid out.We waited and waited and nothing. We then realised why it went so dead,we saw a porpoise which was about 30m from the pier.I guess this was why we had no pulls.
Towards the afternoon as the tide pushed in my rod took of while i was baiting upp my other stick. My hands full of sardine belly blood i ran up hit and waited,i thought i had lost it but as i reeled the slack i felt it was on.I pulled it in and saw that it was a huge spinner shark.with the help of Mahen Reddy i mangaged to lift the shark by my leader. It precaudel length was 78cm and for a spinner that is very big.The shark was then tagged and released. After that Ricky Pillay also hooked into a smaller Spinner, and then it went quiet. At about 5pm 1 shad came out,and that is when all hell broke loose on the pier. The pier then resembeled THE PAVILLION before christmas...There was no chance for us to slide baits after that.We then packed up and watched in amazement at the chaos that was unfolding infront of us.
One thing that i wanted to share with you all is that while fishing i notice a young lad not much older then 11 years or so fishing with his grandfather. This young kid at his age was fishing with an ASSASSIN BEACH MASTER LIGHT and a SALTIST 30.This kid was trowing at least 60m and at his age and size that was excellent.I went over and started chatting with the youngster about his tackel etc..I noticed that his leader was the same diameter as his main line and that he had a loop as a leader knot.I offered to show him how and what leader was used for and how to tie the differnent knots.I proceeded to tie the bimany and also gave hime some of my leader. This kid was so blown away. His grandfather came up to me and thanked me and this really meant alot because i knew this was exaclty how learnt the sport. From experienced people taking time out to give knowledge back.
The kid never left my side after that,he became even hungrier for knowledge on baits tackel eqipment cooler boxes etc....I showed him the difeerent baits you use and why we used them. You know even though i caught some fish that day.it didnt mean as much as the look on that kids face and that satisfaction meant more to me then hooking a monster.....
Pics will fllow shortly.,,,
