Very new to the dropshot game the first of hopefully many more ,Was amazed at the colours

Nice one Skippy441. I'm a SCUBA diver and I agree with you 100%, the colours down there are really unbelievable. By the way, nice Daiwa Megaforce, I recognise the pattern.

It's some sort of Wrasse. Can't find it in 'Reef fishes and Corals" by Dennis King. Try Google for Wrasse and see if you recognise anything.

I'm 100% sure that this is what we call a Rainbow Wrasse.

A search on google images will confirm this, but even from what I remember out Rudy Van Der Elst's book, this is certainly a Rainbow Wrasse.

I've only ever seen one, not being a diver it makes it harder, but I saw one swimming on the beach side Durban's North Pier, before the whole revamp thing.

I tried to catch it(obviously), but it didn't want my piece of sardine...seems they like cammo worm!!!

The fish's proper name is a SURGE WRASSE - Thalassoma purpureum; but is also known as a Rainbow Wrasse.  SA Angling record 1.4kg.
