What is that fish called. I saw them while snorkeling at Sodwana about 2 years ago.

It's some sort of Wrasse. Can't find it in 'Reef fishes and Corals" by Dennis King. Try Google for Wrasse and see if you recognise anything.

Think it's called a 'Rainbow Wrasse'. Caught loads of them down at Southbroom.

I saw this on ESA last night. It was called a Surge Wrasse.

I'm 100% sure that this is what we call a Rainbow Wrasse.

A search on google images will confirm this, but even from what I remember out Rudy Van Der Elst's book, this is certainly a Rainbow Wrasse.

I've only ever seen one, not being a diver it makes it harder, but I saw one swimming on the beach side Durban's North Pier, before the whole revamp thing.

I tried to catch it(obviously), but it didn't want my piece of sardine...seems they like cammo worm!!!

The fish's proper name is a SURGE WRASSE - Thalassoma purpureum; but is also known as a Rainbow Wrasse.  SA Angling record 1.4kg.
