So, for the record, once again guys, just a little bit of humour from my side with absolute no suggestion otherwise.as for those who misinterpreted the comment,I strongly recommend you understand it first for what it is.......nothing more than a light-hearted joke, before assuming anything else.also, a big congrats to the angler and a bigger thumbs up for releasing such a very fine specimen. Many of us anglers wouldve kept such a fine 'trophy'without a doubt. Just my 2cAg ****** - missed the pic! Steenies are my favourite fish to hunt... I've not been that keen on posting my pics either, though I've not found the double figure yet.
I have to say though, the comment here looked more like a light-hearted joke compared to some claims/debates of photoshopping seen in other posts.![]()
Glad to say I saw the fish. Congrats to the angler on a great catch. Must have been one hell of a fight on the light tackle.if its with reference to my comment, then yes, nothing more than a light-hearted joke and no harm intended.if read and understood correctly then one will see that there is no accusation of the pic being photoshopped.I must say though, it is however a pic with a difference ,not your 'usual everyday quality',this one seems to 'stand out' with unusual quality.almost too good to be true type of thing.again,no suggestion of pic being 'shopped'.what I do find in general is that very often a comment is heard or read and without proper understanding thereof, misinterpretations, incorrect assumptions and everything else negative seems to follow and we all know where that ends up, don't we? Eish guys, we need to be less sensitive about things. When the comment was made that the pic was almost too good to be true I added the comment that it is wonderfull what you can do with software such as Photoshop but with no accusations or reflections meant. I added, however, that I thought the fish was an excellent catch and congrats to the angler. Although I did not try and imply that the pic was fake, I have since removed the first sentence of my post to prevent further possible negative assumptions. I nevertheless sincerely apologies if my comment caused any negative perceptions regarding the validity of the pic or to you Marshie. You can hardly ever post a pic of a fish these days without some tool telling you it's photoshopped. It could be clearly seen that image was not photoshopped.
People need to get their facts straight before they accuse. It is pretty obvious when an image is photoshopped (Lighting differences, absense of shadows, Jagged edges etc)
@ Marshie Great catch, a steunbras that size is a real trophy fish, well done!

Thanks for the explanation Kaspaas.
Chaps, please respect the fact that my reasons for not wanting to post it in the first place are the same as why I post repost it. Sure comments re photoshopping are part of it, but the photo reveals a little 2 much for the public domain. Problem is, one has no control over who sees and uses information negatively. I'm not a selfish angler and have shared the joy of this catch with most of the people I know. I have have had negative experiences with carnage that has resulted from pictures that were uploaded to this website and therefore feel compelled to only share information with those mature enough to respect the resource. Most of you are indeed just that and I'm confident that you'll therefore respect where I'm coming from.

would have loved to have seen the pic, but then again respect for keeping the location under wraps, the more these big steamers are protected the better. Thanks for the explanation Kaspaas.

I have to agree with you 100% on this one! But it is not just there that people are taking everything that they catch.Just imagine if steenbras never suffered the fate of netting... I would give anything to see the pristine state of fish along our coast, especially in False Bay!
Less big ones have shown in the area where I tend to fish for them, but that's because locals there put nothing back, no matter how small or big it is. I know of only one double figure caught there in the past 6 months.
Most steenbras caught in False Bay don't seem to make it back into the ocean either. There's that one of 118cm (25kg) caught earlier this month...
To protect the breeding stocks, I reckon steenbras and dusky kob (and perhaps some other species as well) need a maximum size limit in addition to a bag limited and minimum size limit. A maximum size limit was one of the restrictions put on the striped bass in the US, which got stock levels back to flourishing two decades after it was decimated. But no restrictions will protect the species when it's not properly policed anyway! :blah
Hi Morbus, we don't target them unfortunately. We have got two monsters in the last two years and both have been caught under fairly incredible circumstances.
jaccil... good point you make about the maximum size limits! I'm all for that - slot limits have been used in the states for years!
@ jaccil I agree 100%. Nice quality pics are always nice.
