Good day gents,

I am new to bass fishing and disvovered a little pond near home where there are a few fish. The pond is mainly overgrown and almost unfishable. I would like to fish larger waters though. i did some homework and the Theewaters and Brandvlei/Kwaggaskloof came up. I live in Caledon and would like to fish the above mentioned dams from the bank if possible.
If i get some decent spots i will look into buying a Tube later on.
In the meantime would you please help me with the below?

Do i need a permit?
If so, how do i get one?
Is it worth my while fishing from the bank?
Would you share some spots: How do i get there ext.?
If you fish any farm dams nearby and wouldnt mind a partner you can gladly pm me.

I will gladly walk far along the bank if i have to.

Thanx Guys

Theewaterskloof can produce well from the bank. I fished there from the side many years ago especially in the area around the Draaiberg Bridge over the dam. There you can find rocky points, riprap, some deep dropoffs close to shore and stumpfields.

Best lures were big spinnerbaits with plastic worm trailers (usually slow-rolled and jigged close to the bottom) and carolina-rigged plastic worms in dark colours (black, junebug or purple).

When fishing from the bank do not use less than 17lb test mono or 30 - 50lb braid with 0.40mm diameter mono leader.
Also heard about good fish taken from the side in the vicinity of the dam wall.

Don't have current info about access or permits.

My experience has been similar to BigBass. At Theewaters I did well with flukes fished tight to the trees and the rocky dropoffs. Be aware they’ve just come through a terrible drought there so that might’ve affected things.
The Breede river is also a great place to go

Thanx gents. Breede river is a good option yes. Do you know of any spots where one can fish off the bank though?
