Bass fishing at Inanda dam

Good day fellow anglers,

I recently moved to KZN South Coast and started looking around for bass fishing venues. After a bit of research found that 2 dams are the most popular choices :
* Inanda dam
* Albert falls
Been to both once , beautiful surrounds and had a great time, but the bass fishing were slow.

I fish off a boat and off the side , but I do not know either of the dams. So I am hoping I can get a few tips from the experts knowing these dams on :
* Favorite lures ?
* Time of the year ?
* Most Productive spots ?
* Best water depth range ?
Any help will be appreciated ....

At inandaWe always have good success on green flukes ( mardigrass, pumpkinseed) cast right against any vegetation in any of the many gullies. Must go early thou later in the day they tend to get smaller also try the Rocky areas closer to the dam wall also has good fish.

If you can or lets say you have time, go in the week....you will have the dam to yourself. OK, I know it's not possible when you work in the week.

As theo01 said, weekends can be a madhouse, so you need to get up early.

I have fished from the side & boat. Fishing from the side can be pain, when the dam is full, as you will have to work your way through weeds/reeds to find a spot. Be careful when fishing from the side, I am referring to the areas out side the public camping/braai area - several people went home minus tackle/cell phones/wallets, but if you are in a group then you should be fine - referring to muggers ect.

Should it be your first time with a boat, just head across the to the other side from the launching area and work those rocky cliffs.

There's some Bass Tackle shop where you can buy a map/chart of the dam - you will see many honey holes.

I have fished both dams and both are good choices.

I can vouch for fluke choice as suggested by theo for Inanda. I was there last week and got some fish on fluke and creature baits. The sticks close to the river (left from the launch site) is also a good spot. I believe there was a competition on there about a week ago, where the winning catch weighed in at about 6.2kg! Definately worth a visit.

Haven't been to Albert Falls for sometime now but I do remember, good spots include the sticks (located in the middle of the dam)and the river mouth. We always picked up fish on creature baits, flukes and spinner baits.

@ Serra : Yes , I do work offshore and am only in South Africa 3 months out of the year so I try and fish as often as I can - hence the reason I try and get as much information possible because I have so little time to explore and try different things ...

Luckily when I am home I can go fish in the week to avoid the weekend rush !! Camp out and fish all day long ....
