Baitcasters = Surf = looking to throw money down the toilet
Rather look at a coffee/spinning or a multiplier

The bigger Saltwater version of a Baitcaster like a Diawa grandwave/ shimano torium etc.

Diawa Make a baitcaster called an offshore which is suitable for both fresh and salt - has better bearings etc

Went to Daiwa's site, couldnt find a baitcaster called an offshore. Do you have a link? Thanks man. And you reckon this would work for bass aswell?

Had a look. I have doubts about its limits in the sea though. Although im probably way with this statement. Will have a look around. Any other comments suggestions still appreciated! Really. Even more confused on which route to take now. lol.

Get yourself a coffie grinder with 2 spools, if you fish offshore you use Fireline and if you fish inlant you fish with either braid, mono, fluoro or whatever you prefer.

You can get really good coffie grinders for half the price of a baitcaster.

@Bigmouth: What reel would you advise that can be used for bass and some saltwater? And a matching rod for the bass side.

That's exactly what I suggested a whole herd of posts back.
Entry level and excellent reel Shimano Slade -retails for about R300

Diawa Excellor 3000

Match with the Berkley Tactix ( Thats the combo I have) Or the diawa excellor 7 ft med heavy Rod

REC don't waste you money on JUNK - Shimmie all the way

Unless you serious about your fishing, then its got to be DIAWA !!!!!

Slade might be a bit lig in the broek for saltwater species,

I'd say the Tica Splendor, awesome reel for what you pay. I think they go for under R700.

Matching rod for bass, I'd say a Shimano Crucial 7 foot 2 inches medium heavy, extra fast action. You can pick them up for R750 bucks

All you need then is a spool full of 10 pound fireline and bob's your uncle.

A setup for coastal and inland fishing.

What you mean I have pulled amny a GT over 10kgs on SLades - If you can pull a GT there ain't nufin wrong with that reel.
Reason I don't like Diawa - GT's break them
