My personal opinion is that its a better reel,

The excellor is an excelent reel but the Tica just feels smoother and stronger.

Just called my local tackle shop. Tica goes for R700 like you said and an extra spool will cost R200. =R900. The Exceler 3000 + goes for R899 with 2 spools. The exceler + has 7 bearings as apposed to the standard 4 in the normal 3000.

You guys think I should go for it. Im going to match it up to a M/H Loomis.

I don't think you should touch anything that is not a Shimmie or a Johhny Morris..........my humble 2 c

Ok, well. Do you honestly rate that R300 reel up there. I am open to your suggestion. And trust, If you give me peace of mind that that reel is a smooth performer. I will go and buy it tomorrow. The price is good. Just worried that I will feel the quality difference with a bigger fish in the salt. And what reasonable rod do you recommend Ryan.

If I had to get the expensive set up in my last post. I would be spending out of my budget. So please......?

Try the Shimano Exage 2500FB, awesome little reel also the Spheros 4000, great buy..... There are so many options, the slade is a great value for money reel, and if something goes terribly wrong you can buy another one....

I think coz Tica is relatively unknown in SA it is often overlooked, these reels have quality components and are wellpriced! Try them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still rate the slade but have to agree with Deon on the Tica. These days I buy disposable reels - if they break chuck them away and start from scratch. I have some slades that are now 8 years old and they have yet to let me down.

Want an unbreakable rod - look at the Shakespear Ugly sticks very few can match their durability - they are a little heavier than grafite counterparts but damn you cannot break them.......

I had to buy my Father in Law some rods, so i opted for the Shakespeare Ugly sticks in 9ft and 7ft and i also got myself a 7ft. You can fish those rods with no worries, excellent for very light lures! You don't even notice the weight on the rods.

A bit sloppy, so good for lighter applications, but no fish will break it.

Caught my first barbel on crank on mine and that was GREAT fun

The Abu C4 5600 is amazing. I have one and use it for beating up bass and barbel and then take it down to the coast for scratching and casting smaller spoons and plugs. Awesome buy!

@ Riaan, I originally wanted this reel. But I have heard they arent great for casting light.

So I think I am sticking with the coffee grinder. Going to compare the Tica and Exceler tomorrow. I want to see if the new exceler+ with 7 bearings has made it feel smoother than the tica. And gonna go see all the shimano's mentioned in this post.

Whats the next step up from the R300 shimano Ryan?
