Whel i know some of the guy's have used the oil (from these canned fish) with bread. must be the oil ones and not the tamato ones. you can even use the liquid in the mussles tins.

And then there is the fish oil consetrate you get from most fishing shops

these should help and the woun't smell untill you open them

hope you come right

i have camped at the orange river quite a few times near Noordoewer (namibian border post), last time was 3 nights ago! Anyway, i have always found plenty of Yellowfish biting from the side and quite easy to catch, so all you need to do is catch one of them and you have barble bait! or take a nice chunk of biltong with and soak in water a bit before you use for bait, i would however end up eating the biltong long before using it though!

Take one heavy line for the barbel. the biggest ones in the country are around there. P.S you might very well get ur ass whipped if it's not a snoek line....

take one thinner line with a few small hooks and a tin of mielies. catch a small carp/yellow like dorado said and bob's ur uncle.

Also a cricket or grasshopper, and best barbel bait ever is a young chick out of a nest. but the kids might run away screaming.

You can also try artificial livers. I think its called 'Gulp'. Bit expensive but ideal for your situation. And some guys swear by it. Sounds like a fun outing. Enjoy!

Why not get yourself a 4 piece 9' travel rod.

PLenty strong enough to handle 15-20kg cats and ideal for fishing your bait fish. Fish your way up the food chain, cricket or crab legs for yelloe, yellow for barbel and if it's small enough set it on a night line as a swimbait for BIG MOMMA

Give me a PM I've got just the 4 piece 9' Traveling rod in carry case. Cast 20-100gr and stores small enough to qualify as carry on luggage on any flight.
