hey guys

i'm looking for some advise on reels - to match my rods
the rods are the shimano alivo 8ft specimen rods 2.5lb

the only baitrunners ive come across are the shimano DL FA and the ST FAin the 2500 and 4000 sizes

does any one have these that could please advise / comment on them?
or perhaps any other recommendations on smaller baitrunner that
could balance well with the rods?

i've tried the 6000 bait runners and they feel really award and heavy on the rod so im looking for some thing smaller

ps im looking for this setup for fishing the river and perhaps some stalking on margins etc

these are some specs on them>
2500 (355gr) model 0,25-160 / 0,30-110
4000 model (410gr) 0,25-260 / 0,30-180 / 0,35-130 /

thanks guys

I just imported 2 x Daiwa Emcast BR4000A reels for my 9 foot Nash Dwarf rods (used for river and creek fishing)
Really nice, they cost 75 pounds each and are more than suitable for the rods. They come with 2 spools and I loaded them with 15Ib line (snag fishing) and 10Ib line as a light fun option.

6000 is overkill for casting in rivers and margins..

Have a look at the small avo runners v2. They are well priced..

hey bank stick

i have tried them with the 6000 shimano and the reels are really heavy and the setup feels very unbalanced,

the thing is that the rod is quite light weight - and a rather slim blank
so the normal sized reels feel bulky.

I have the Dl4000 bait runners and i cant fault the i use them with my 10ft roda and they balance them out perfectly. i have over 300m of line on mine with no problem

The DL4000 / 4500 models are the most used reel in the LTB fraternity.

Based purely for product support for the next 5 years and the name Shimano I would recommend the Shimano DL series reels and at least the 4000 reel

Have you concidered the Mini baitrunners like the shimano XT-FA? The 400 model has got A nice 6kg drag.

The cheapest at the moment is Gani's in witbank  or you can try Sarel at ultimate angling in east lynn
