LOL Caught only one before of about 3 kg many years ago. Have never seen or heard of them before and was fishing for gallies. Casted close to a bamboo forest and after 20min saw my line go tight just like when it gets snagged by a bamboo.
Did not feel a bite or tug, etc. I decided to break off but for my dear life the line would not break. Was swearing at this bamboo that is causing me so much trouble until I saw the "bamboo" swimming about 10m out. That was the quickest I have ever loosened a drag LOL. Caught on fresh whitemussel presented galliestyle.

Daai bamboo het seker leker gesmaak op die kole nê! :fbash

Caught plenty in the Die Dam are on light tackle ( 7ft rod , 4000 size grinder 5kg line ) only ever caught them on Wonder worm with a no.4 Big Gun. With a 5-10m cast your in the zone .

Great fish to catch on light tackle :)

Went out today only blacktails did find worms thou do you catch them on the push or on full high tide
Ahoy smiley.
You can catch them at any tide. Depends on the structure you are fishing and what the formation of that structure is like and weather it will suite the fish feeding in that area on the right tide.
Ive caught them on low tide spots in the surf and off reef and the same for high tide.

Often you can site cast at them so keep an eye out for fish in the shallows.
Heres a pic of some ive seen in the shallows and caught.

Nice. I reckon it will probably be just as hard work (and very frustrating) as trying to catch tailing grunter though..

For us mortals it's not that simple but hoping to get another go at them the weekend if plans go well

I can tell you its far harder than catching grunter.  There are a few of us that have been chasing bellman on fly for some time now.
