Flat clear water, running trace as you would use for Steenbras, no float with worm or prawn. 20 to 30 metre cast and look for where the water makes a sort of upwelling with sand being churned in between and bang you're on!

Right On Mike!  Caught my fair share  at Swartklip using this setup on moonshine worm.

North wind flattens the water. So when is blowing north, we are gone to swartklip.

They are extremely skelm. Only a suspicion of a bite.

Been a few out at Hougham Park recently, but the most are caught from the Summerstrand Pipe all the way round flat rocks, Walls, Ruby's all the way to Small Surf.

Catch them just like Mike does!

Thanks Bunkerking2.

One of my favourite fish to target. Very light tackle fresh bloodworm, prawn or moonshineworm rolling foamy warm water.

My friend caught this one next to me at Kanon last year 79cm on prawn.

Smiley,

I target belman in very flat seas. I found they like both sand and rocky areas and very fussy eaters...

I personally prefer a nice pink prawn bait for them and they are also suckers for any worm bait you put out. Biggest problem is that people tend to cast over the fish.I caught my first one when I threw a kraaines with a prawn bank and about 20m from the side...

If I get to the water and it looks to calm and clear for fishing I target them and sometimes I will get about 4 or 5 in a session.

When you get them of the rocks the fish are normally dark in colour. If on the sand they will be silver and shiny...

I use small hooks from a 1 to a 3/0 depending on which spot I fish. I use small baits(2 prawn max) and cast just behing the white water. I have caught them deep but 90% of the belman I catch is about 30 to 60m cast from the beach without a wade.

O yeah and the bigger ones just pull you flat and give a lekker fight.

Solid advice Stapies.

Not that I know any better. I still need to catch me a Belman.

LOL Caught only one before of about 3 kg many years ago. Have never seen or heard of them before and was fishing for gallies. Casted close to a bamboo forest and after 20min saw my line go tight just like when it gets snagged by a bamboo.
Did not feel a bite or tug, etc. I decided to break off but for my dear life the line would not break. Was swearing at this bamboo that is causing me so much trouble until I saw the "bamboo" swimming about 10m out. That was the quickest I have ever loosened a drag LOL. Caught on fresh whitemussel presented galliestyle.
