What about Structure Scan for locating bait? I recall that you mentioned that you could even tell the difference between Shad and Mackeral. Can you show us some examples please and explain how to interpret the images.
Secondly, my intended use in Rivers and Estuaries. We have seen the amazing detail in fresh water for Bass fishing but how well does it work in rivers where we often have a layer of fresh water on top of denser salt water?

My HDS 8 unit has a cable spilt into two....a power cable and a data cable for NMEA ..?

I know what to do with the power wires.....

 

What is the NMEA for? do I need to use it?

 

I'll be connecting a lss-1 and sonic hub to the unit

No, you will not need the NMEA0183 unless you want to hook it up to your laptop via the serial port.

Spend the whole day installing HDS 8 , LSS-1 and Sonic Hub. All fine except for the Sonic Hub, Noticed that the fishfinder does not pick it up. Tested for power to unit - all fine. Found the power light on the Sonic Hub unit does not light up.

Why ??? Could it be faulty out of the box? or an I missing something?

Ok. I found the box, but the cable does only have a "sig lighter" tipe plug on the other end for interface capabilities. How do get around that to down load all my data onto my pc?  I already installed the software you sugessted.

Hell I am stupid. Just paged through the manuel and saw that the pc cable is an optional eccessorie. I just hope that our local commercial marine will have it in stock. Thank any way.
