A customer of mine from George/PE, have around ten of these Avets - the factory magged ones, cast just fine, but he had me fit the MAG-IT, to the rest and now he can fully enjoy them.

Typical of a leverdrag reel, the spool moves away from the dragplates, towards the left, when the freespool lever is pulled back for casting and the leftside spool flange disappears int the frame, so very difficult to thumb !!!

i can share some of my own experience , i'm using both squall12-15 reels and castes a 4oz sinker while practice

around 180-200 mtr mark on 0.35 line with 13.6 light posseidon setup the squall has basically the same mag control as the MAG2 reels family and it can be from very slow to uncontrollable fast

just a beautiful accurate adjustable cast control

any way i never had the money to get my self an AVET reel i know this are great reels , ask all aussie anglers on sealine

thats my squall 12 with a nice bass last year ;)

Hi thanks all for your input. The reason for me asking is there seems to be a lack of size 16 reels around. I'm looking for another one for collection and as usual looking away from the norm and just seeing what's out there. Those 2 reels seem to be the only ones thus far that will hold enough 80lbs braid similar to a 16 size reel. The MXJ MC seems to be the one I'm drawn to. I need a reel to hold minimum 250m 80lbs braid for casting plugs and spinners. Thanks again for the feedback.

Nice fish. I must say that I really really like your set up. Poseidon light and squall. Perfection. :)

Avets are pretty average in terms of everything, their main claim to fame is that they are American made. Penn suffered a massive backlash in the US when they sold out to Pure Fishing and exported 90% of their manufacturing to China. Which left only one or two former boutique reel manufacturers in the game the best of which is Accurate who started out making upgrades for Penn reels and now make some amazing reels.

Nothing AVET makes competes with Daiwa or Shimano at any level shore based or game fishing.

Interesting.

I think the SA market which is huge is often forgotten about. When will we see a factory fitted mag brake in Daiwa or shimanos in our size reels again?

They have done away with the dc series. I think it was not big then but bring it back now and also in size 16 reels and I'm sure demand will be huge!

I agree. Daiwa and shimano are the innovators and still better quality most of the time. I would love to see a factory fitted TN 16 NA with mag brake. ..;) dreams!!!

My dad  has 10 or more of these reels, I have serviced two of these that im very impressed with, its got full stainless steel main and pinion the anti reverse is also pinion with fitted carbontex . after cuban cigar made the mag it kit for those reels he is able to cast with ease using 80lb or more power pro braid on them for catching sharks in pe its a mean machine of a reel and would recommend it any time

Penn FTH40NLDHS

The best and most fun I've had with a multiplier spinning yet. Just add a stroke /3 or a custom popping rod..
Stops big fish fast and smoothly - casting weight, 3oz up maybe 2.5oz with a softer tip rod.
CAsting this reel is easy unless you hit it too hard. -It goes to fast too quick.
Feels like a new school Penn 49N on roids....
Slow smooth casting with a slow and smooth retrieval but
It's so fast and has so much power on tap.You need to experience it to believe it. Loads of torque.
big heavy plugs far out feel like light 1.5oz - 2oz plugs when retrieving.
Mine is spooled with 50lb 832 backing
And 65lb 832 main line
100lb braid leader with some .90 flouro at the end.
My total line cap. is a lot of metres

The drag washer is a monster and can work up to 40 lbs ...
That's a wole bunch of smooth drag to play within.

•Full Metal Body and sideplates
•Forged and machined aluminum spool
•Stainless steel main and pinion gear
•Dura-Drag washers virtually eliminate hesitation, even under extreme drag settings
up to 40 lbs on strike
•5 shielded stainless steel ball bearings
•Line Capacity Rings- massive capacity
24.5oz - weight
7.1.1 gear ratio - 60inches of line per turn /152 centimetres
massive torque from a massive stainless gear. 60mm diameter.
6mm of gear mesh between heat treated pinion and main gear
Super free spool (spool runs on 2 bearings ). minimal/zero handle binding when drag engages.

Will post pics for you too drool over. LOL
She's a light weight monster with masses of power...
and the Price was crazy for this quality gear....well it was a few months ago when I bought it. Suburban Tackle Ottery

Very soon A nice small adjustable magnetic break system will be fitted.... ;)

Avet and Penn brake systems are dial systems. The dial is numbered or notched 1-10 and is easy to set prior to casting and after .
Probably most user friendly system there is. Pick your dial number according to the tackle you are using and cast.
Bass reels use this system too.
Helps when changing bass lures of diff. weights.

Adjustable Mag brake systems should be standard on multipliers already. Its 2016 - WTF
