Arniston Weekend 20-22 FEB 2015

Had a Boys weekend away in Arniston this weekend. Weather on firday night was superb, no wind and nice and warm. A lot of small tonks, Elf was stripping our bait at speed.

Saturday morning the wind picked up and was rather unpleasant on the beach. We did the morning fish at the Otter with no Luck, we must of been 15 anglers on that beach that morning but was very quiet.

Went to struis and managed to net a few mullet. Went down again to the Otter on Saturday afternoon. Had a huge pick up and it peeled about 200mts of my reel. Struggled turning it round and eventually popped my hook.

Had another pick up later and landed a 1.2 mts smooth hound. After a nice late evening braai (and some brandy) my fellow 3 anglers had a sleep in. I went down to infront of the hotel for a change and was picked up in the first 20 min. A nice 72cm, 4.5kg kob.

Was a great weekend away and was always nice going back to Arniston.

Nice one.

We also had a boys weekend fishing at FransKraal / Die Gruis. Al we have to show was shy sharks and puffers. Didn't see any of the other fisherman landing anything edible.

I know of one other small shark that was caught on Saturday. Water was very clear in arniston. But its like the lotto, you cant catch if your bait is not in the water._seal1__seal1__seal1_

Was there for the weekend as well. Didn't even rig up a rod - instead we searched the rocks collecting mussels, alikrik to eat and a few occies and red bait pods for the next fishing trip. While scratching around, it was promising to see so many little black tails and zebras in the rock pools and also baby siffies & alikriks. Managed to fill a shopping bag with line that was collected off the rocks and picked up about 10 sinkers too.

On sunday, we saw a chap that had landed a belman off the rocks below the restaurant in the village. Using some sort of worm as bait.

This weekend with spring tide the water went back far. If you were there you would have been able to open a 2nd hand tackle shop walking the rocks by the lighthouse.;)

In April last year I hit a lot of blacktails, nice size too but this was down at Galjeon Gat.

Saw a local with a nice gallie on Saturday afternoon, atleat a 4kg. But I think it was trapped in the fish traps as he had no rod with him.

I also believe at low tide the locals fish the slip for bellman.
