Me and my 12 year old daughters camping/fishing weekend. Arrived Friday 16h00 and got the spot I wanted (Furthest left hand side). Pitched camp with rods in at 17h30. Weather not very nice with wind blowing and pretty cold.

Two barbels +- (1kg and 4kg) caught with crab and one carp +- 1kg.

Next morning was beautifull and things picked up. Carp only between 1-2kg keeping us busy. Very nice barbel on fish head.

Saturday night till about 22:30 busy with each catch bigger. Produces biggest carp +- 4kg. Left my scale at home and could not weigh (stupid).

Sunday morning misrable and started raining. Packed up and went hom at approximately 08h00.

21 Carp and for Barbel in total.

Bait - Good old brown bread with curry and caramel. One rod with Vaaldam strop and one with sliding Rietvlei. Small pieces of bait with hook point open. Plain Supercast feed. Both rods busy. Tried white sweet dough and several tipes of floaties and dipsbut good old brown bread did the thing. Fished from 10 - 50m. My daughter fish close and did pretty good at that distance.

No yellows, grass carps or muddies caught?

Worker with the name of Jan came to visit and brought business card and contact details of owner. As mentiond on other thread. Current manager will is being replaced at the end of March. The oompie being replaced is obvisously not to happy and is spreading untrue rumours. Lets hope that new management will put some effort in and get the ablutions sorted and kept clean. The river side (where we were) is littered and must be cleaned. Will not take much effort the get the place up to scratch.

To mention lastly. We chose a spot as far as possible away from other guests and am I glad. Probably 3 parties to the right of us (probably 500m away) a group came in on Saturday. Loud music, car staring constantly with battery going dead because of music, hard talk and shouting, swearing such as "jou ma se ......." etc. Gees I can not unberstand the mentality of such people.  Hope the new manager will take care of this as well.

A few pics to follow:

Plenty of this size around:

Great report. looks like a 2KG.

The barbel or the carp? Ha ha only joking, no idea forgot the scale at home.

My 2nd time there and I really like the place. I have not been bank angling for a very long time and with very basic (old) equipment and methods both times we had success.

Thanks to this forum I discovered the place and are slowly but surely picking up on angling methods and ideas.

Can not wait to get out there again.

Cheers

Hi Unlimited,

Where is River Kollege Plaas and what is facilities etc over there? Any pics?

Bit disappointed in the cats. That one was caught around 15h00 the Saturday afternoon and from then untill we left no more cats on the bite.

Cheers

Thats not good news... Weird thing is was at kollege plaas in december last year and very few came out too... Kollege plaas is a few km after aqua via towards vereeniging, same road though, cant miss the sign. There is hot showers en toilets and long drops on the bank, otherwise they are about 500m away from the camping area. Nice and quiet and good fishing, although some areas are quite shallow

Superb report and well done on the catches BCEC

How are the facilities at Aqua Via .

Hay Shuraj,

There are two ablutions, brick buildings with two flush toilets, two showers and two basins in each. Very basic and unfortunately very neglected (toilet seats are broken, no shower heads etc). Its dirty and my wife will kill me (not devorce) if I take her there. So basically Dizze is right, no facilities.

The good news is that with little work and a good clean it can be acceptable. Lets hope new management will do the effort. O, forgot, only cold water and no electricity.

This is now at the "main" fishing area. To the left and right is big stretches of river banks available for fishing and here only long drops available.

Cheers

Thanks for the info.

How big is fishing area? I really enjoy piece and quite along the waters and the further I can be from any other party the better?. My daughter is my fishing partner and although she's just to happy to "rough and tough" want at least to give her clean ablutions. Maybe I'l go there next time.

Cheers

Thank you Bcec for the feedback .

I definetly want to try out the place.

Which is the easiest route from Pretoria, as i see that you are from the area as well.

The easiest way to Aquavia or Kollege plaas is on the N3 highway towards durban you take the Villiers turn off hence that you will go through a toll gate it will cost you R31-00 then it is a few kms down the drag you cant miss it on the left hand side
