Hull and Concept leave nothing to desire, but a couple more drink holders, full engine displays and perhaps a repeater station for the VHF in the Tower Helm Station.
What sucks: New owner Cdre. Francisco engaged a marine surveyor in Florida, full inspection and test drive, had clean report of findings and now we are slugging away at meagre 2.600 remms before the engine oil goes 200F plus...
Plenty to do before we can fully rely on the twin VOLVO diesels, get quickly into our designated target area and fish her hard.

A season not so soon to forget, caro amigo TRE! KIANDA has written us off. We are 14th in the League...
We have has the most attrocious weather in a decade, lost precious days of competition fishing. None of the genuine MALTA have managed to fish much, so routine is not achievable. The hassle to bring the new boat from Florida took it's toll on the accounts... not yet counting the expenses the engine overhaul will entail... and eventually we will surmount all of it and have one of the most capable sports fisherman as the new platform.
DJ2 is making a dash for the Dande cliffs tomorrow. Sacha is enjoying Easter Vacation and we got to convert that into a popper "clinic" on the wrecks. Reverting.
Other than that, projects at hand are the closing of season event May21st/22nd. After that the 4th of July Marlin World Cup and any other weekend the project "Tuna 200", my personal favourite yellowfin tuna in the range of 100 kgs.
Water has gone cool 3 weeks early... it used to be rather around May 15th previously. We now have 23 at the shore and only a few patches of 26 left far offshore. YFT like this and the past weeks have produced tuna of 30 to 40kgs for some boats.
Courting manta rays can be seen as close as 20km out of Luanda port. In a couple of weeks the whale show will commence.

We chenged the raw water pumps, cleaned the oilcoolers, adjusted the valves, scratched the bottom and now MAHINDA runs like she was supposed to: 23kn for 3.200 rpm, temps around 90 C´s, 7gph at WOT boat fully loaded ...
And a wonderfull ride she is. We fished her for two days in the "End of Season" event. Waters are realy cool now, so a medium mircale that we found dorados... which have given us 6th place instantly.
Winning Team Dragoes of Federation President Dr. Fefe had a t&r on a marlin, lost a second billfish, a 83kgs shark and 5 tuna of 20 to 40,5 kgs. To get there they invested 60nm worth fuel to go and another to come back from the deeeeeep ocean.

thanks SKIP, was quite a step from a single engine to two i/b shafts... without Carlos we would´nt have gotten there so soon. He´s a knowledgable chap, that man. Obviously, for some applications, like the seasonal inshore fishing which started now, MAHINDA is not the ideal ride. Instead of clumsy 5.5 mtons, we rather fish sturdy old "Djamila2", like past Saturday for a quick popper trip under the Dande cliffs.

Unexpected fast first billfish for Mahinda, no doubt. I could say Kyanda was with you two but I know better. Congratulations Jan! I bet you weren't as cool, as you seem here in this report, when both of you were fighting that ENORMOUS beautifull marlin. Wish I was there!

TRE: you know me well. I was half sh!tt!ng my pants when I wired the fish. She was just invisible at first in the black deep, then gradually emersed and showed me her flanks... that´s when I realised just how large she was. Our old lady from 2010Lobito compares well, still the Lobito fish was so much more filled out. This 3,20m "post-season" fish in Luanda had obviously spawned and was now riding the edge of the Benguela Current to get to warmer, more prolific waters. We would have spared her if we could.
