Went down for a gooi at Bontkop about 5:30am, 1st bait of the morning was quickly nibbled off by what was probably a small elf.Made my next cast and was just starting to relax when I felt my rod being pulled down slowly and steadily, after leaning into the fish (lets call it that for now) I realized this was something substantial, then it took off straight towards robben Island and line was peeling off my torium, not fast but at a slow steady pace, after it had taken about 200m of line I then wound my drag to max and still the thing kept going, I then started palming the spool and eventually managed to stop it briefly and I held station, whereupon it decide to head north, after about another 150m or so I decided something had to be done as, the fish  was going to drag my line across the kelp beds, I managed to stop the fish again and I feltI had turned it, then as i started to try and retrieve some line, my 16kg maxima trace parted! On checking my trace afterwards I found it had snapped cleanly, small consolation was that all my knots held and that the carbontex washers were superb throughout.I don't think this was a seal as the one's I've picked up in the past usually swim parallel to the shore and then head out to sea and I've never been able to stop one let alone turn it....any ideas?

I Don't have the feitest idee, maby some in-ed. What I do know is there is somekind of thing with a hook in it's mounth with your name on it. Give it another shot and post some pics.

Some strange big things lurking out there from time to time. Last year Kevin had his 120lb  steel trace bitten clean through!

Never caught a flatfish there myself, but going by the above, whatever that was, anything and any fish is possible!

A cowshark does'nt take 200 meters of line at locked drag. If it was a cow it must have been 100kg plus which is not impossible. There are 8ramble sharks in that area who have teeth like a cow, but pulls like a bronzy. They are very scarce and little is known about them. They can bite steel of and are fairly aggresive. What was the pickup like? Bump and straight down or bump, slack line and the a gradual pull. A cow will bump head all like a raggy or cob while fighting it.
