I had been watching the weather forecast all week and the conditions were looking good for a trip to "Raggie Heaven". After my last trip there left me with a sprained wrist, straightened hook and a blank I have been plotting a plan to go back and claim revenge!!!!

So Friday morning I make the call that the trip is a go and Wade couldn't make it but Dave was not going to let me leave him behind. So 4:30 am I fetched Dave and we were on our way. We arrived in the dark and got our tackle ready so that the baits went in just as it began to get light. The conditions could not have been better if we had ordered them, cold mirky water with a light swell and no weed::S

 First up for me was going to be a throwbait. No point wasting time sliding when you at a spot the raggies feed close in. I had also set a goal for the day to upgrade my very modest throwbait PB of 118kg.

I rig a blacktail head & belly on a 18/0 eagle claw(no more straightened Z-Steels;), clip it to a 7oz and in it goes. Before I can get my 2nd rod together I see a bump and slack and I'm on. After a good pull I land my first Raggie for the day.

So I add the fillets of the blacktail to the head and out goes the bait again. I set the rod in the spike and go back to trying to rig my 2nd rod but before I can tie the stopper ring on the leader I see action on my rod and I'm in again. After a solid pull trying to avoid the reef and guide the shark into the gulley I have my next Raggie on the beach, and I've acheived my goal and upgraded my throwbait PB to 132kg with a 191cm Female.

At this point I can't understand why Dave has not had a pull. He then tells me he can't understand why he is drifting to the left. There's not much swell but I said maybe his sinker hasn't set but it could be a shark. He was sceptical about my response of it being a shark but decides to reel in anyway and sure enough his Blacktail slide bait is gone.

He casts again and slides his bait while I prepare another throwbait. I turn to see his rod bounce and get pulled down slowly. He goes to the rod but the bait gets dropped.

I cast again hoping that I can upgrade my Throwbait PB a bit further. I hold the rod and get a very very gentle pickup. I set the circle and at first the shark feels small but then it turns and goes on the longest run I've ever had from what I was sure was a Raggie. Considering the tide is still very high and I'm certain it will be a throwbait PB and possibly an overall PB I make the call to take it to the beach. After a 45min fight I get it close and see it in the swells. It's a solid fish but not as big as the fight suggested.

A solid throwbait PB Raggie of 208cm 173kg, she was very healthy and heavily pregnant.

So while I was on the beach fighting my Raggie Dave lost one and put another bait out and then came to help me. When he gets back he's been picked up and his line dragged through the rocks. Sorry for the missed shark and thanks for the help but never put a bait out at Fish Point when you're about to leave your rod.

We then go into a tough patch where we are getting bites within 5 min on every cast but the hooks aren't setting. I then get a little female pup of 132cm which is quickly released so we can get back to bigger fish.

Dave has been watching TV and I'm really hoping he'llget a solid fish. I convince him to make the change to circle hooks and before long he is onto a feisty male of 167cm. It's a PB for him and on a throwbait.

The bites start getting a bit more positive and I get a pick up from a solid fish and 70mtr into the run the circle hook pulls out:?

By now I've run out of throwbait sinkers and decide to slide a big bait in the hope that the smaller sharks will leave it for the bigger ones.

It works and I go tight on yet another solid fish. WHile I'm on Dave goes tight and so does a 3rd angler who arrived while we were already on!!!

I get my shark in first and it has come in over a bad patch of reef. With no one to help and Daves shark close to the gulley I have no option but to leader it myself where it is. By the time I get mine into a safe gulley where water can wash over her Gills Dave is ready for his to be landed. I run over to help him land his. I then get back to mine to tag it and get it into some deeper water while Dave stays with his shark except for the time it took for him to take pics for me.

I get back to Dave and his shark has tried to get away while he was helping me. I'm not sure if this was before or after a wave took him out and had him hugging his shark:fbash which by the way was a 180cm and his first tripple and a PB::S::S well done Dave!!!!!!!!!!!! no more Blanktista for you

Baits in again and another double up::S

I get another bait out and once again go tight within 10 minutes, it's another solid fish and I'm already tired but I hang in there and land another solid fish of 198cm

After 7 sharks @ 824kg I realise I'm not fit enough, there's enough time for another cast but that last shark hurt me. I decide that seen as I cost Dave some fishing time when he came to the beach to help me I'll give him one last cast while I pack up and make myself available to help him.

After about a while I'm beginning to wonder if this will be the first cast of the day that we have that doesn't get a pick up:fbash

But then I see him go tight and it looks like a solid fish. After a long fight we eventually get to see the shark and I can see it's a bus. I'm standing on the dune with him and by now the tide is high and getting to the sharks is almost impossible. I then see it heading towards a patch of reef I can just about get onto. Dave pulls and with the help of a swell I get to his leader and we land his 4th PB for the day. Daves help on the beach had been rewarded with a 208cm shark::S::S exactly the size of the one he helped me land.

So there we have it 2 anglers 11 sharks 1,3tons and there were other sharks landed and lost as well. Truely a day of a lifetime or will there be more..........^^..

Firstly I wanna thank Fluke as the trip would not have been possible without him taking me there and for advising me how and where to land the sharks and gaffing them for me.

@Koper thanks for the encouraging words, and yes It's taken me the best part of 10 months to get my first 100kg+ non-ed after lots of things not going my way.

Fish point was truly amazing that day as every single bait we sent out got chowed within 25 minutes or less. Once I saw how Alton catches his raggies and sets the hooks I did the same and I got 3 bags in a row after missing a couple.

The last raggie of the day I got on a piece on y-tail fillet. The whole day I never used a bait bigger than 500 grams yet we got some decent sized fish on relatively small baits. I like sliding smaller baits as it gives you more baits and the fish are more likely to swallow a small bait than a bigger bait.

My first 2 bags I got on throw-baits. I used the following tackle: (T53)365/8+1, Tor 50,1.2mm wind-on leader,0.59 seagrand. I also got both the raggies on the same bait(a shad head and guts).

I had 2 fish that I should have pocketed that I missed and here's what happened, the first one that I lost was from my seagrand 0.59 taking a hammering through some reef and having the head of the shad sliding up and down the line which resulted in the line parting half-way in the fight.eish. then next I was onto a fair sized bag and my fig 8 knot that I tie to my swivel breaks off.eish.

My last two bags that I got were on slide and shad and y-tail were the baits being used. Tackle used was my 14'6'/6-8oz(T53), Fin-nor 30 with 0.5mm T-line and a 1.5mm wind-on leader. I must say thank you to Fluke as I got the last two bags(187cm and 208cm female) on one of his slide traces that he lent me.

What a day it must have been!
One day when I`m big, I also want to experience a day like that.
Gongrats to FLUKE and Dave, it was not only a good day, it was effort, perseverance and skill.

I dunno how I forgot to mention this. Thanks boepens for all the advise and responding to pm's etc and tips here and there. And lastly thank you to everybody that has helped me here on Sealine.

I learned allot from yesterday and hopefully will put that to good use at Mazeppa in 2 weeks(thats if I get my drivers license).

Awesome to the 2 of you and well done on 4 PB's in one day to Dave and 3 PB upgrades to Alton.

Hate it when the sinker comes off and the the bait comes up the line.

Once on with a size shark at Mazeppa and after 2 hours got it close only to notice the tail head up the line and on the surface, didn't think much of it till a small hammer decided it would make a great snack, end result with the line parted with a greedy little hammer taking a yellowtail head way to big for him to swallow (Reckon those Shad teeth would have to much for any line)

Alton when we had our throwbait smash at Paradise beach we ended up using 60kg bleeding wire as sinker lines because raggies are heavy on sinkers
