A question about rigs

Good day fellow fishermen,

I hope you are doing well?

I have a question regarding rigs. I am referring to the "Rietvlei Strop" in particular.

My question is, how do I know the hooks and bait are lying on the bottom correctly? is there a certain technique used to make sure, or is it a 50/50 gamble?

The reason I am asking the question is because I have been using it for a while and blanking for the last couple of fishing trips.

Your opinion would be much appreciated!

Firstly post a pic of your rig its pretty hard to do something so wrong with a rig that it would be the reason you don't catch fish but it does happen.

Hi TimJan,

Thanks for the reply.

I usually just go out and buy my rigs from my nearest angling store. I mostly use the Gly Rietvlei rig when I fish for carp.

I just always feel my rig is tangled when it's been in the water for a while. So I just want to know if there are any techniques to make sure this doesn't happen?

I would normally clip the top hook into the mieliebom and leave the bottom one hanging.

Do you think I should clip both hooks into the mieliebom?

I normally hook both in and make sure the bomb is slightly stiffer that way I feel it will get to the bottom as a whole instead of exploding on impact, with regards to the trace I would rather make my own than use pre-rigged trace some are made poorly, I would have more confidence in self tied rigs , also try vary the length of your hooklinks, normally 5-10cm is enough, play around.
