A BIG SEALINE welcome to Spyker Kruger,[

KHAN.

Ja boet sorry you feel that way ,I will not be who I am today if it was not for critics ,I do however try and take note of what I hear and read .

What we can do how ever is start a topic on how you and every one out there can help me improve on the DVD , The idea behind it is entertainment after all.

What would you guys like to see and how would the viewer like it to be presented .

Keep in mind that once the filming is done it is out of my hands, then it is the editors thyat take over.

Being critical on the side is just an opinion and will not help me or any else to get a better product on the market, we tend to lose our aim somewhere along filming and produsing, so I would really appreciate youre andf all other members help.

Thanks

Manta.

How did I become a legend?

who decides on this ? no one asks to be a legend ,and I still dont see myself as one , there are however GREAT SPIRITS in this game that are MY legends.

How ever what I can do is tell you what I have treid to do for fishing and the game as well as premoting the sport. But I dont think that will even answer youre Question.

Khan,

I don't agree with you at all. Have you ever met Spyker? There is no fisherman in the southern hemisphere that has more knowledge than Spyker Kruger. I have met the Legend and what you think you know, he has already forgotten. The guy has so much knowledge, its scary.

LOL

hi Spyker

point noted.a sugestion maybe for your dvd would be the proper handling of fish.it may sound crude but i really feel that fishing is going in a whole new direction, conservation is very important.

one more thing is presenting,i do realise that you are fisherman first then presenters but a bit more professional presenting is in order.

another point would be that of swearing on the dvd.i again realise that all us fisheran like to swear alot of the time and between freinds hey why not but on a dvd which children would be watching well its just not on...

those are my sugestions and thank you for your response.

yours in angling

Excellent, i have been waiting for a reply like the one you just posted, i respect you for that, i have been the only one in this thread to openly critise you for your dvd's although many have commented about your dvd's in other threads but it now seems that this will be a blessing in disguise.

I am sure that many will send you their opinions and there you have it, research and development assisted by sealine:welcomesea:

thanks

A warm welcome Spyker. If one may ask, which brand/type of rod(s) do you use and prefer the most for non-edibles? In your opinion what is best about those rods? As a novice angler, I'll learn a lot from this info.

LOOKING AT YOURE TACKLE  I SEE THAT YOU ARE INTO HEAVY RODS.

If you have enough upper body strengh these rods should be fine, the problem with most guys are that they allways try and fish like the guy next door , instead of feild testing a rod that would actually suite them better.Heavy rods needa big build up to get a long cast in other words you need enough body power and swing to LOAD the rod resulting in a long cast.

Groete Spyker

hello spyker

a common question many anglers have is distance.my question is this what sort of distance do you achieve.if you cast lets say 150m average which distance do you find that you get your fish at the most.i do know that it is about conditions but i also know that fish sometimes feed alot closer.

if you say heavier rods need more power to throw do you feel that distance is more important then comfort.when isay comfort i mean the weight of the rod the feel of the rod and so on.many rods today cost an arm and a leg do u think in your opinion that the rods for sale today are realy worth the price we have to pay.

i know waft sponsers you but are there any other rods which you use or think are as good as those.another important question is would you still use waft if they didnt sponser you and what rods did you use before waft.

thank you manta

Manta.

I have rods made by Andrew Pauts,Charles Stewart,Chris Uys,WAFT, assasin,Balzer,Century,Zipplex,Sierra etc in Total 48.

Some I still fish with and some I dont even bother with anymore.

Waft suites my way of cast , my buildup and my power that is why I stick to them.

Remember I baught my first waft's did not get them sponsord, secondly waft has brought out rods that we field tested and did not recomend ,so they dont bother to get them on the market wich is more I can say of other company's out there.

It is all about getting rods made cheaper and selling them at a reasonable profit.

we are all (fisherman) paying the price for rods that is not up to standard.

Old brands with new names keep popping up ,but it is still the same Grafite used in the beginning with moderate changes,a lot of Companies are having rods (still under the original brand name) built in Korea at lower budget costs, seen how the guides and winches get the green colour from salt corrosion and then they are not even 6 months old, and the bad part it still says FUJI but isnt. Rods that split open , break on the cast ,winches that strip, guides that pop and the list is endless.

I have got rods that are 9 years old with the same guide and winch that shows no sign of any colour disorder .

The problem is that we are still paying for what we think are good rods but isnt the same standard as before.WHY? because we allow it !

Fortunatly there are still company's that produce good rods and invest a lot of money for research in there products.WAFT is one of them. Then every second Tackle shop owner is importing rods allready built at low cost flooding the market and trying to convince every new comer to the sport that his rod is the answer, should they not have rods to field test available to customers befor they buy.

Keep youre eyes open for a new blank that is going to take the market!as long as the rest is up to standard.I believe that this blank will give any guy a improvement on his cast, I treid it and found it great.

Casting range differs from area  to area , you do need a long cast to get to a reef or bank or drop if it is far out ,but I do agree with you that most fish are caught fairly close ,with bait presentation being the answer here.

The thing about a long cast is that you are fishing youre own stretch of water where the other guy's cant reach ,and any fish that passes through this zone is yours, wich gives you an advantage.

Manta this is just my opinion ,and any one can differ on this <but I have been around long enough to see how the game has changed and that the guy on the street is paying the price,

Mnr Kruger,
Firstly, thank you for sharing, your experience surely will help a lot of us.

I am a novice angler, fishing for under a year, my question is, what rod would you recommend to start out with. I don't feel that I can justify the spending on a waft. But then again, goed koop is duur koop ???

Homie.

Try and get to some Tackle shops , look at what is on offer Try and feild test some rods.

I still think that the best priced rod on the Market is a waft, looking at the basic ,winch, whipping , guides etc, they use good stock and it will last you a long time, but you are going to fish with it  so it should be youre chioce.

They are reasonably priced you do not need to buy the most expensive on the WAFT range ,I have some of the first ever built wafts and still fish with them ,the guy's at WAFT are busy with a new rod that is going to be better priced and real value for youre bucks.

NOTE: Take care not to buy these new brands that have not yet proved themselfes.

Hi there Spyker,

What is your opinion on gaffing sharks? Look, i know there are some instances that one can't help gaffing. Like in the Transkei, there are really high rocks there and sometimes you have no option if you want to land the shark.

I have fished the Transkei coast many times and the longer the shark is out there, the more stressed it becomes, increasing the chance of exhaustion and drowning, and, the longer its out there, struggling, other sharks like to attack them.

In Henties bay however, fishing is done mainly from the beach and one can avoid gaffing 99% of the time. The other problem there is that there are close drop offs and trying to land the shark by grabbing it's tail is very dangerous, as he could pull you in, and depending on the surf conditions, with currents and backwash etc one could drown.

Also not landing a shark quick enough exhausts it, and the reviving of that shark takes much longer.

What is your opinion? I watched your Hentiesbay dvd and I thought it was a good production. Excellent tips, awesome steenbras that guy from the hotel caught on competition day. But what i noticed is that on the file footage, was the SOUTH AFRICAN FISHING TEAM as well as the NAMIBIAN TEAM catching sharks but also gaffing. Surely they try to conserve. What is your opinion on that?

One more thing, I really enjoyed your Transkei dvd's especially the part when you guys went for a swim with the sharks. You know, I have fished that point and when people fall in there they usually drown. One night we fished there and one of our gillies fell in there about 8pm. We thought that was the end of him. Two hours later we heard whistling, we shone the torches and eventually found him and rescued him, he survived, JUST........
