In the end the only way to make a difference is to get specific trekkies banned who do not comply....i.e. get them on video and get it in TV...can't see it happening any other way in reality...so if you want to make a differnece maybe this is the way to go??

Hey there guys! i read yesterday that the treknetters were out at Strandfontien and i figured id go have a look at what the fuss is about and maybe bag some red bait that they don't use.

I was completely shocked by what i walked in on!:X There was dead fish all over the place! Hundreds of undersized cob and stumpies left on the sand to die!:swear Got some red bait, put it in the bakkie and went back with my filleting knife to try and make a difference! i was releasing fish all over the show! anything that i could find that was living went back, good thing i had my knife handy as i was threatened a few times! Just couldnt sit back and watch them carry on. ^^..

Studying conservation ecology at Stellenbosch didnt make the ordeal any easier to witness! i know i may not have mad a huge difference but i tried. I understand that it is their livelyhood but the way they "harvest" is totally uncalled for! They murder and waste everything! As soon as the inspector left all the small dead fish were renetted and given away for cat food or sold for extra bucks!

A small bronzie came out and it must have been on the sand for more than 10 mins before i got there as it struggled to recover! Rays tails were cut off as they are a "danger" and St. Josephs (i think thats their name) were all left to die!

I now understand what the fuss is about. I despise these people!

What can we as fishermen do to make a difference?

I read early yesterday that someone posted the treknetters were pulling their nets out at Strandfontein and i figured id go get some red bait that they just waste, only to my disgust!

It was my first time seeing them do this and i was shocked to say the least! I get that its their livelyhood but the way that they "harvest" is just sick! hundreds of little cob and stumpies all dead! they just leave them on the beach! i got seriously ticked off! Got my red bait, walked to the bakkie and got my filleting knife and went back to release as many fish as i could! They threatened me like crazy but didnt come close as i had my knife in hand. i chucked back all the rays and living fish i could find!

The rays tails were all chopped off as they are a "hazard' AAAARGH! St josephs (i believe thats their name) were all left to die! Anything that came out was kept! As soon as the inspector left all the dead undersized fish were collected again.

Im studying conservation ecology at Stellenbosch and it kills me to see this! and then i wonder why i blank some weekends! I now understand why everybody is so against this form of fishing! I despise these people!:X:uzi:swear

I have to agree with beach drifter, i am in the process of getting some media involved, cause this is the only legal way to so so, mcm doesnt care!!!!!!!!!! if any one has a desent plan that could work then please count me in. Nou raak ek ook gatvol!! or els can the rest of sealine get off their backsides and lets all stand together, if we all rock up at the beach and stopping the treknetters, then the cops will get involved, wich might be a good thing to get exposure. the rest off the country stand up for whatever they think is right, and then they actuly get stuff done. I think its called Toy toy. lets pull finger guys.
ok,great idea! So, let a date be set preference to a weekend to accomodate everyone and let's all stake out strandfontein in our blue shirts( so we can identify 1 another).question is.....how many ravers will actually pitch? How many anglers even benefit from the trekkers? Livies.....etc etc.I've seen enuf to know what I'm talking about.how many fellow sealiners are even guilty of this? Its easier to rant and rave on the forum than to confront the perpetrators in person.honestly now, this record is beginning to stuck. No offence to anyone but if the shoe fits,it fits. Finish en klaar!

if we go in big numbers and get media to be present, a massive confrontation, a big fight, we WILL make the 8pm news headlines.::slr::

Those trekkers are all ex jailbirds (most of them) and our lives means nothing to them, they are trained knife handlers ,so i hope that whatever the plans are, will not end in some member going home via a newspaper .The government is behind those netters as it is part of job creation and MCM's hands are also tied that's why noting gets done to the netters but they target the soft targets like me and you,law abiding anglers.

Just remember one thing ... MCM report to the provincial government NOT local government. Meaning there is two very different parties involved.

I believe that the only way to get these b@stards off the beach or at least fishing their target species is by influencing control at the top.

Vote opposition!!!

Question: Who issues the treknet licences?......MCM or DAFF  ( Provincial or National)

Jy ons maak plak vas en:fbash die netters; get 50/50 to film them or Debra from 3rd Degree; and the idiots that work for MCM havent got words for them. the law is strange; the innocent is always guilty and vice versa. you that is trying to protect will go to jail for self defense. but the M@#@%F&%$#r that commits the crime is the victim. go figure. the fish stocks are depleting because of the netters. :uzi:X

hulle vang al die vis indie see nie net haarders nie. :X and then they wonder why is the fish so scarce. hulle is nog stupid ook.

ek sal saam toi toi; and they get permission to drive on the beach. hoe is daai. his vehicle does not cause any damage to the enviroment

I too think we should organise protests but any gathering of 16 or more needs approval. At the very least, we need more people to report on their actions and monitor them. Take photos and videos of how they operate and the results of their actions, even the threats they make if you can get it on record. Send your pictures to all local newspapers with details of the harm done, the current state of our fish stocks and legal limits recreational anglers need to adhere to.

Amalia, a journalist with Carte Blanche, posted her details in the topic regarding the broadbill that washed up in Melkbos. Lets ask her if she can't get Carte Blanche involved. Does anyone have contact details to get the attention of Fokus?

We need to get a lot more publicity on the issue. Soon enough the government will realise that they didn't gain a few hundred votes by interfering and handing out treknet licences, but that they lost thousands and thousands of votes from upset anglers and other concerned citizens.

Shore anglers are trained rod and rod stand handlers. A fishing rod standard SS rod stand may not be as agile, but it has some reach. The rod butt is good to defend someone invading you personal space. Make sure you have line and a heavy sinker tied to it, in case someone tries running away! Just kidding really, but hopefully illustrated that we're not defenseless with our standard fishing gear. We just need a lot more people to stand together to an overwhelming effect.

We definitely need to start scrutinising their actions a lot better, keeping records, photographs and video footage of as much treknet activity as possible. If anyone can assist, it would be much appreciated!

SS rod stand IS a deadly weapon to protect yourself ,DID YOU ever took it with you when walking to where the trekking takes place only to see what is in a net or did you leave it in your car?  I think walking with it in your hand up to the net is looking for K@K big-time, and leaving it in your car it is useless to you.

No offense to you Riaan, anyone or anybody reading this post or commenting...

u know what I am sick off...I am tired of guys jujping up and down, ranting and raving like little boys about all the treknetters and boats, guys taking more than their limit and all that!

Here is the question! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE to stop this? Coming onto sealine making a fuss to our fellow anglers doesnt help anyone!

We all suffer together, but ffs then do something about it! Burn down something...

Start putting word to mouth!

Agreed B_D...Yip, this bandwagon is a bit overloaded!!!
