I saw one yesterday in real life and was actually very dissapointed/surprised with the overall shape of the vehicle. Its all square. Looks like those bakkies I drew in Grade 1. But I'm sure if its your taste, it should be ok and I'll should get use to it. It took me a while to get used to the new Hilux shape, and now owns one.

Going to the launch on Saturday at Kyalami - can't wait.
I agree it looks bland without all the extra metal that the other bakkies have, but just like them, extras are available.

Have a look in the new Leasure wheels magazine - they test and compare six or seven bakkies, Amarok included.

P.S. - The Amarok was used as support vehicles for the Tauregs during the recent Dakar rally with no problem.

have tyo ask yourself, how long have VW been making bakkies for??? The caddy was not exactly a winner
Caddy is not a bakkie, it's is means of torture - I had one for three years.:cry1

Problem was the canopy stuck out six inches above the cab like a sail.

It looks great, only 1 problem, it's not a Toyota!
Given a choice, I'd still buy a Toyota!
One thing about the Toyota is they never give up, they just go for ever! It has to do with simplicity which is what makes them so good.

I recently sold my Hilux DC 3.0D-4D for R40k above book. I originally advertised it here for 260k and ended up selling it for 270k. The dealers were offering me 15-30k above book. One guy called me and offered me an extra 5k to sell it to him. A Toyota dealer said if my buyer doesn't come up with the bucks, they will give me cash. Not bad hey!

Oh, I just bought a Land Rover 35k below book.

Have the same feeling. The bakkie looks good and the power output is impressive.

Did the clutch on the hilux start to smell a bit when you reversed with the boat up a hill or something similar? In 4x2 that is. My dad has one and it does that in two wheel drive, but we just stick it in 4x4 low range and problem is sorted. Same happens to my uncle's one

we did the maths on the hilux, ranger and amarok on a 5 year plan you end up paying over 400k for the toyota and ford the amarok comes in at about 30 k cheaper and thats alot of money to spend on extras and i think it looks good

Just out of interest, I have just read the Leisure Wheels 4x4 DC comparison - (12 judges) looking at (exterior/interior/tar/gravel/4x4/value/handling) - this is how they finished.

1 Amarok

2 Navara

3 Hilux

4 Isuzu

5 Ranger

6 Triton

Asked which one they would take over our borders - Hilux or Isuzu

Worst fuel consumption during the testing - Amarok!!

Quite a good read - out now!!

Also read the new Car mag they do a test between the Hilux and Amarok - the Amarok wins (just) and don't forget the Hilux is 5 years old!!!

But you will loose a lot more than that when it comes to selling it, so no advantage at all!

Some interesting facts have been surfacing, especially regarding the new range of diesel engines.

Looked at the Navara 2.5 this morning.
Brilliant vehicle, pity that you are forced to sign an acknowledgement that you if you put 500ppm diesel, your guarantee becomes void.
Same with Hyundai, same with BMW.
I think it applies to all of the new stuff and if I don't get it in writing to the opposite, I will be re-thinking my decision.

I know these new generation engines are the cats whiskers, but when spending more than R300 000 on a vehicle that you cannot take over the border - ai yai yai.

Having a look at the I35 petrol this afternoon ?:walk

Over the border is exactly my problem ???
90% of us drive city style 90% of the time, the other 10% of heavy fuel is o.k.
If the shoe was on the other foot, I agree that a proven track record is worth more than fuel economy.

Amarok still 1st choice.

i recently bought me a 2.5 navara, and so far very very happy,it pulls like a beast on steriods,i am going away for the weekend, and there were i launch you need a good 4x4 to get out,so will c how my new baby gets us out there.fuel consumption i get about 550km on a full tank in the city,i think thats a bit on the heavy side as my old nissan 2.7 gets about 900 on a full tank in the city.

will let you guys know how se handles the tricky launch, were just the old landys usaully get the boats out

i bet the amarok is good but i hate vw's so no thx, waiting to c how the reliability is going to be a bit further down the line
