Good Day All

I would like to know if anyone would be interested in a log on a 1987 CC Ski Nautique 2001 Refurb?

I am new to boats and just love this old gem i have bought from a good friend.

she needs stringers to be replaced and engine overhauled and repaint as well as new interior.

I am based in Pretoria. I have never owned a boat so this will be a steep learning curve. I am technically minded and worked on a few car motors with the old man growing up and have a fairly stocked garage with tools.

The stringers and paint i want to have done by someone who knows what they are doing and i will do the motor and all the small odds and ends.

Would love some input and advice as i go along.

Also who would be recommended in the area for the stringers and paint.

Looking fwd to seeing your progress. I logged my progress on my OceanRunner rebuild a few years ago and it is great to go back and have a look at the whole process.

The pace should pick up in the new year not much going to happen over the festive season unfortunately.

Hi Guys

Well an update on the restoration so far...

A good friend and i went down to the river on the 04/01/2020 to finally go collect the boat.

Just whipped off the wheels and re-greased the wheel bearings to make sure we would get home without any drama.

I was surprised the wheel bearings were in such good shape - think they have never seen water...

The drive home was uneventful and was home by midday - So therefore the high pressure cleaner came out and got to work. I don't think that boat had ever been cleaned so well in its life!!

Once all was cleaned and admiring the boat for several hours trying to figure out a game plan the tools came out and started stripping the interior, out came the sound system that was installed, blower and what was left of the ducting.

A few days later out came the fuel tank and the 7 year old fuel plus all the pitot tubing, breather/fuel lines all fuel fittings and fuel cap removed.

The more i work in this craft the more i fall in love with this machine, so far all coming apart so easily and not many issues so far... She seems to be in pretty good shape.

One afternoon i had a friend come over and had a few beers and thought we were clever and decided to get the engine to start - since the motor was going to be overhauled i thought what the heck...

needless to say after a bit of oil in the cylinders and and a bit of fuel down the carb she managed to to fire... and my word what a sound!! got to love the good old Ford V8!! Oil pressure was good while cranking and no bearing knocks or any funny noises so i was very surprised!!

After the beers and dicking around the motor was pulled out and started stripping, got down to the block and that motor is clean inside, looks like it has been overhauled before due to oversize pistons and hone marks still visible.

I have decided not to do a full overhaul so will just be new seals and gaskets. I will send the heads in to the machine shop to have the conversion done for unleaded fuels.

So at the moment the motor is out, just need to pull all the wiring out the boat and final clean before sending the hull in for stringers to be replaced and new floor as well as repaint.

Can anyone shed some light on repainting gelcoat? Paint to be used etc, iv seen one or 2 resprays and i am a bit concerned of the finished product. Is automotive 2k the correct paint to be used or what would be recommended?
