Hi,
I know this is not 100% in the right section, but saw some comments in Cheapest Fishing Tackle yard sale thread which prompted this.
How come the SA inflation rate is around 6% but in Cape Town, all the major tackle shops have bumped prices on basic tackle by over 150% in just over a year...
I am now seriously running the risk of sounding like an ouvrou with a natbroek, or worse a kortbroek that has been wrongly accused. But please take note of the first page of the gazette who the minister is:
Hi All,
I use my Torium 20 with 0.4mm line and this weekend I casted the mother of all over winds, one of those that just jump out at you from nowhere, pity I din't have a camera, it would have won the photo comp. The snag is the line also went in between the frame and spool and wrapped itself...
I always thought Shimano was being rediculous saying that the Exage 110H can cast 250g. The rod just felt to lite.
Well I tried an 8oz sinker on my Exage 110H this afternoon, casted it no problem. Distance +- 100m. Reel was a Torium 20 and Kingfisher GA 0.4mm line and a 0.7mm leader. So I...
Hi All,
Please advise how to get sand out of a reel handle, one of my Toriums and SL50SH have sand in the handle shaft and the handles are not turning so lekker, I tried blasting it out with Q20 but all that did was increase the grinding noise.
What to do?
Thanks
Pylstert
Hi there,
Anyone who is still thinking of getting those Carbontex washers from Smooth Drag in the states - they are darn good and much cheaper than original Trini or Saltiga washers. Order the Cal's grease at the same time. I have had a chat to a reel fundi Alan Tani, you might have heard of...
Hi All,
I saw Deon Brits II's posting that the Kingfisher is getting in an order of Carbontex washers. For those not in Durban, it is very easy to order them directly from info@smoothdrag.com. They do now have Carbontex available for the SL50SH, I received mine yesterday. In the past they...
Hi All
I did a bit of a tackle expansion/upgrade. After a lot of phoning around Cheapest was the cheapest and I placed a mail order with them. I paid and then a couple of days later it transpired that one of the items I ordered was no longer in stock and my shipment was going to be late. Mr...
Hi
Braid has a reputation for slipping knots and apparently the Bimini can even slip in braid. There was a whole long article in Complete Flyfisherman about it and in there they said you have to use waterproof superglue on all your braid knots but the most foolproof is to make a sleeved loop...
Hi All
Has anyone used these upgrade Smoooth Drag washers? After the upgrade the Saltist had almost the same drag as a Trinidad or Saltiga. Anyone know if they are available in SA? I saw it on an American site pierfishing.com.
Cheers

Hi All
There was a lot about casting not so long ago. I got the John Holden distance casting cd, really learnt a helluva lot from it. It's got lots of pics and video clips and explains to you how to cast right from the very beginning through to the pendulum which works like a charm once you get...
Hi all
presume most sealiners know to release sharks as they grow slow and don't breed all that fast. If you want to find out more how commercials are cleaning out the sharks go to www.sharklife.co.za and get some of their newsletters. If you contact them they will also let you know what the...
Hi All,
Anyone fish with a Shimano Exage Surf? I have had the rings pop out the guides on my 1468 twice now. It's a super rod but it seems they skimped on the guides. When I got the brand new rod the tip guide ring was out on the heavy tip. Tatlow & Pledger swapped it for me. Now it has...
Hi All
A question from a new slide angler, if you have dropped your sinker about 130m fishing from a flat beach, how long do you have to do the "slide shake" for? How do you know when the slide and bait have reached the ring?
Thanks
