i have been using Okuma for more than 20 years now, have many many rods and reels lol, quality on most is above average to great, i would steer clear of the cheap entry level stuff that usually only lasts a few seasons, their mid to top tier stuff is great, i have some mid level reels and rods...

Longer rod better idea, further casting and keeping the line off the rocks.

any of the smaller micro salmos/ rapalas should work, also take a look at cranka crab lures but, very pricey.....
