Zinkwazi

Never fished Zinkwazi (ever) - Whats the fishing there like - Planning our holiday there - would like to make it a "planned co-incidence" trip - Nice for the kids and wife  but also good fishing.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Zinkwazi River is usually closed to the sea, so there is a large lagoon behind a sandbar.

1.5km north of lagoon is Boiling pots - which often gets the murky, ginger beer water from the Tugela river overflow - good for Kob and Inedibles. Spooning for shad also good here.

500m South of the lagoon is Black Rock and another 500m Line rocks, which forms a reef that runs straight out to sea. Another 400m south is Tidal pool rocks and then Iti Bay.

Line rocks has many gullies and little holes - great for dropshot, shad, blacktail, bronze bream, stumpies and karanteen.

Iti Bay is good for Kob at night with Dusky sharks in winter too. Garrick are apparently running too.

Hi Jacques,
That stretch of beach used to be my favourite back when beach driving was still legal. The river mouth (was always closed)beach area is great spot for Kob (some in the 20-30kg class) at night or early dawn/dusk...also expect the greys to sometime on thick.

If you really in the mood for a walk, there is Seola point a few kays to the north, very good for Sandies and Diamonds.

Thanks guys for all the info !!

Just looked at accomodation - need to climb into my savings if we want to stay there - Wifes got an eye and preferance for all the comforts in life - Think I'll veto Zinkwazi as holyday destination for now.

Hi Jacques,

We fished our postal round there this past w/end. Bar our captains infamous decision to fish at the mentioned time, we too, WOULD have pulled weight....

Greys were plentiful and a nice 30kg kob made an appearance. Plenty surge in the water on pushing and full tide. I spent an hour or so fishing for edibles on the southern part of the rocks and only had pan fish to account for. A 500g black tail also found a way to get a 5` diatchi in its horse toothed mouth.....crazy.
