Zim Bass - Alive and still kicking

A group of 4 mad fishing nutters decided to revisit Zimbabwe after a sucessful Dec 2009 tour to Mteri Lodge had whet out appetite.

This time we decided to try out some new waters namely:

Nottingham Dam - 40km from Beit Bridge

Nuanetsi Dam - 150km from Beit Bridge

Mteri Lodge - In the Sugar lowveld near Chiredzi

Good news - these waters have been barely fished and whilst we were in the spawn - 100 bass a day were not unusual. The Nuanetsi Dam had not been fished in a year and the water temp had gone above the magic 19 degree mark so the fish had mostly spawned - hence this fish of 3,75kg (8,25lb) was thin as a rake with a massive head and long body - my guess this fish could have been over 10lb if it had guts.

Fishing patterns did not matter due to spawn conditions but we managed a 5 fish bag of 12,85kg on our best day (3,7/3.15/3.10/1,50/1.40) mainly on Zara Spooks (any colour - saltwater) Spinner Bait - white - and Cranks - all soft baits were good especially "fighting Frogs"

There is no doubt that Zimbabwe is still a jungle and the Border/Police Road Blocks/Potholes/ War Veterans actually mean that the fishing pressure will remain moderate for a while yet but for the adventurer and brave souls - the place is pure magic

That's true Tinevimbo, Zim has some very nice fishing waters. We'll have to wait for the old devil to die before we'll be fish their waters again. I've heard from other people that was in Zim that there are monsters there, just waiting for us.
