I am very happy with my setup.

The 8000 Stradic loaded with 55 lbs Saltiga casting braid and the 9ft Ugly Stick works great to get the spoon out into the deep.

Amazing pictures, shows the amount of hurt you can really place on these rods while casting.

I don't think I'll be as adventurous my first day in the Transkei, last thing I want to do is break my new Aerocast the first time out with it! Once I understand the rod more then I'll try an push it a bit.

I will be using a 4000 Sustain with 20lb McCoy braid on this rod.

And the same reel but with 10lb McCoy braid with my Speedmaster rod. This combo was superb last year on the S coast and at Morgan Bay.

Hi Gerhard, isnt 55lb braid a bit of an overkill for casting spoons? Whats the thickness of that braid?

Iv got a sustain 5000 with 14lb fireline on my ugly stik and that works great from the side or off a boat

I originally put the 55lbs braid on before I went to Angola. There I used the reel for casting big plugs and spoons from shore as well as jigging.

On my other spool I have 85lbs of Saltiga boat braid for jigging.

I will at some stage buy another spool and load it with 15lbs braid.

Until then the 55 lbs braid will do the job as its quite a thin diameter.

Gerhard,some great pics there bud.

I have a Stradic 6000 for which I bought an 8000 spool,It comes with an extra spool, I thus have a brand new 6000 spool if it will serve you for the lighter braids, send me a pm if you are interested.

Thanks Kitefisher,

Where did you buy the extra 8000 spool?

Will the 6000 spool work on the 8000 reel?

Yip,they work both ways, exactly the same reel, bar the spool-size.NeilG actually educated us on that one.I have the 6000 and basically bought the 8000 spool for a bit more line capacity for certain scenarios. Shop around a bit they are fairly expensive, but remember it comes with the awesome drag fitted as per standard.

On the spec sheets it shows the 8000 weighing a bit less than the 6000,this is due to the spool's weights, the 8000 being a few grams lighter.

Cheers

Gerhard, Bassil Manning stocks some spare spools, not sure of the exact models and makes, but I'm sure you would be able tot get a quote from them! You can just ask them on Thursday evening!!!!
