Yesterday I met a chap at a party, we started chatting fishing and i was amazed how much this "OLD TIMER" told me that I did not know.. I know I am not the worlds best fishermen but I thought i had reached a stage where i just need finetuning..

Well well well.. was I wrong.. this old timer tought me two things in a short converstaion that would have taken me years to "trial and error" ..

With his help I perfected a trace that had one flaw.. I now have a trace in my mind is the best trace eva.. BTE.. I will call it.. lol ;-)

So the moral of the story is that we can all learn faster if we fish with these experinced guys... So I am looking at joining a club for a once a month fishing session where I can learn and share my learnings with other.. In a nice social enviroment ..

What clubs are around Ben one I .. that i can join..

I am looking at Avion..in kempton.

I agree. I learn every session you fish with theses guys.

Pro's: Gain valuable experiene, Its competitive and challenging, you get to know new people.

Cons: Strict rules, especially for the new guys(if you practised social or papgooi), need to be available every first weekend of the month to fish,

I will suggest you join a club if you want to learn and gain knowledge on interesting fishing topics like, dips, rigs, rods etc, etc.

Please share your rig....

I like catching more fish than the old ballies! And then they ask me how I did it, and then they dont believe me when I tell then! Hahaha! But seriously, I have learned a lot in the past 16 months. Our club is not that big at the moment, but we do have some experienced guys and they are always willing to help.

Show us or tell us more about the rig plz!?!

As i told PI i will chare the rig as soon as i have the "tools" to make it .. I had another revelation last nite and think it is 100% spot on for ALL purposes..

I am going to Mias Woodmead round 13:00 to get the last elements needed to make the BTE..

should post pics and details of why i think its the BTE (best trace eva) soon..

I share my friends ... if we dont share then what the hell are we on this planet for ?

Hi Gertus,

I have joined Kavalier Freshwater Angling club in March 2008 and since then have learned so much from the guys. We are fishing the first Saturday of every month. Last year myself and my peg mate was chosen to fish the B team of the club in the league, wow what an experience to fish competitive against other clubs. The guys in the club are really willing to help and they even had a workshop at Blaaupan last year to help the new guys and to show some tricks of the trade. We also have very experienced anglers in our club.

So ja it is definitely worth it to join a club.

Just to give you a answer wrt your post.
I have been angling for Anguilla nou for 5 year . I joined them for exactly the same reason you are looking to join a club. And I have not looked back one day. The best think you can do is get a list of the clubs in your area and go and angle with them.

I also enjoy the league events only problem is that I have with our league events are against the Swerwers “Craig and his team” and for the last view years we were against each other in the league final and then Craig and Marius whips our back ends. LOL But this year wil be different. Hiehie .

I belong to an artlure club.

Clubs are much like family's well away from Sealine anyways.

1, You learn so much, Comaraderie, likeminded people.
2. You Can gauge your fishing ability and development by fishing competativly against the rest of the team - Nice to be the underdog.....

My humble 2c

Just like you , I have been contemplating joining a club again . Two weekends ago  I was invited to attend a free fishing clinic hosted  by "Dagga" Club at Vogelsfontien dam in Springs. I found this to be most informative.

Presentations were done by guys like Johan Fourie , Piet Veldsman ,Smitty of Champion Dips , etc.  I was impressed with way it was presented ,and it covered everything  from the set up ,BOM ,baits ,knots ,traces etc  to casting demonstrations/ lessons.

Apparently they will be hosting these clinics every 3 months or so.   These clinics are aimed at sharing information and teaching the social and club angler the finer details etc of being a top angler.

I believe "Dagga" is one of the top competitive clubs in the region ,with at lot of big names in the angling world  as members ,

Maybe this is the club to join as I sure you can learn a lot from these guys.
